CHARLES BAKER SR. Mr. Charles E. Baker Sr., 73, of Pittsburg and formerly of Newport, N.H., died suddenly on Monday morning, January 19, 2004 at the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital. Mr. Baker was born on March 25, 1930 in Newport, N.H., son of the late Edward O. and Grace (Tatro) Baker. Mr. Baker was employed for 25 years with the Aspen Tree Service, and later for Sturm Ruger and Co. for 20 years as a grinder. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and snowmobiling as a member of the Pittsburg Ridge Runners. He also enjoyed woodworking and building. He will be remembered for his love of his family, and for always being willing to help a friend in need. Mr. Baker is survived by his loving wife, Mildred (Ploss) Baker of Pittsburg; six children, Cheryl Warburton and husband Harry of Goshen, N.H., Charles Baker Jr. and wife Chaunee, and Edward Baker and wife Eleanor, all of Newport, Patricia Grace and husband Robert of Clarksville, Tenn., Katherine Willey and husband Richard of Hillsborough, N.H., and Adam Baker and wife Meg of Newport; four stepchildren; Sandra Ingalls of Pittsfield and Susan Tanguay, both of Pittsfield, Ray Sanborn of Unity and William Sanborn of Newport; a sister, Grace Ploss and husband Everett of Newport; a stepbrother, Ronnie Baker of Newport; a step-sister, Carol Dodge of Newport; 82 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Baker is preceded in death by his parents and by a brother, William Baker Sr. There will be no calling hours. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Condo-lences may be offered to the family on-line by going to www.jenkinsfuneralhome.net. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ELLSWORTH BUNNELL Mr. Ellsworth Harry Bunnell, 86, of Colebrook and St. Petersburg, Fla., died on Sunday, January 18, 2004 at St. Anthonyıs Hospital in St. Petersburg. Mr. Bunnell was born on August 15, 1917 in East Colebrook, son of the late Harry and Ethel (Buffington) Bunnell. He was raised in Columbia. He was a self-taught man, professional florist, professional pianist from the age of 15, world traveler, author, noted local historian and lecturer. His ancestral roots can be traced back to two well-known families: one great-great grandmother was a cousin to the famous L.L. Bean, and a great-great-great grandmother was a niece to Ethan Allen. He was the owner of the Blossom Shop prior to his retirement. He was a musician at The Balsams Grand Resort Hotel, having celebrated his 49th anniversary there in the summer of 2003. He was an organist for the Monadnock Congregational Church for 40 years. His trio, "The El Bunnell Trio" was a highlight on weekends at the Colebrook House for many years. He was co-chairman of the Colebrook Bicentennial celebration in 1970, having written a book for the bicentennial called Even Unto This Valley. He also published in 1999 Our Family History, tracing his family back to 1066. He assisted with the histories of Colebrook, Columbia and West Stewartstown, to name a few. He was also published in New Hampshire Profiles, Northern New Hampshire Magazine and Yankee Magazine. His memberships included the Colebrook Historical Society and the North Country Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Bunnell is survived by two nephews, Norman Crawford of Waterford, Conn. and Harry Crawford of Louisville, Ky.; two nieces, Linda Crawford of Colebrook and Ruskin, Fla., and Evelyn Greco of Hurricane, Utah; three half-nephews, Jim Unfonak, Gerry Grant and Don Grant, all of New Hampshire; two half-nieces, Mona Stewart of Colebrook, and Jeanne Berry of Canaan; his cousin, Earl Bunnell of Canaan, and numerous cousins in Maine; eleven grandnieces and nephews; and 15 great-grandnieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Geraldine Crawford of Groveton; a half-sister, Aurilla Unfonak of Colebrook; and a nephew, Sherwood Crawford. There will be no calling hours. Mrs. Fox was born Marlene Hazel Bunnell, daughter of Holman and Glendowin Bunnell of West Stewartstown. She was raised there and was graduated from Colebrook Academy, and became a telephone operator in West Stewartstown. Marlene was an accomplished organist and furnished music at many of the local churches, and taught many of the young people to play the organ. She was married to Kenneth Fox, a local businessman, on August 27, 1960. They operated the Sunoco Station, the Chicken Hut, Ledges Motel and Ken Fox Movers for many years until they moved to Brooksville in summer of 1992. They continued to operate Ken Fox Movers in Brooksville, Fla. Marlene is survived by her husband Ken; two sons, J.B. and Tory Fox of Tampa, Fla.; daughter Leslie (Fox) Flagg of Brooksville; and three grandchildren. Marlene is also survived by her mother, Glendowin Bunnell, and sister, Colleen Carney, of West Stewartstown, as well as many aunts and uncles. Memorial services will be held on Sunday, January 18 at the Salvation Army Church in Brooksville, where Marlene was the organist for many years. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- JOYCE MCDONALD Mrs. Joyce Ann (Schrader) McDonald, 54, of Canaan died on Thursday afternoon, January 15, 2004 at 12 noon at the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital following a short battle with lung cancer. Mrs. McDonald was born on March 31, 1949, the daughter of the late William and Grace (Hoover) Schrader of East Carondelet, Ill. She was raised in East Carondelet and was married to Walter Alexander McDonald Jr. in 1970. While living in Illinois, she was employed at Ralston Purina and Our Lady of Snows Shrine. She later worked for Jensen Customs Brokers in Norton. She was a devout Catholic and most enjoyed being a wife and mother. She will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved her. Mrs. McDonald is survived by her husband of 34 years, Walter McDonald; her daughter, Jennifer DıLeahann McDonald of Canaan; her son, Matthew Walter McDonald of Canaan; a brother, William Schrader of East Carondelet, Ill.; two sisters, Helen Stratmann of East Carondelet and Marilyn Becker of Belleville, Ill.; her brothers-in-law, Ralph McDonald of Coaticook, Quebec, Michael McDonald, Patrick McDonald and Kevin McDonald, all of Rockland, Mass.; her sisters-in-law, Gladys Kilbreth of Ware-ham, Mass., and Paula Carroll of Brockton, Mass., and their families, including many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Margaret Schrader and Dorothy Facas; her in-laws, Walter and Gladys McDonald Sr., and her brother-in-law, Dennis McDo-nald. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish in Canaan, with The Reverend Craig Cheney as celebrant. Merrill and Margaret Berry Merrill, born in West Stewartstown on June 9, 1938, died at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna, Ohio, on January 12, 2004. John lived and worked in the Pittsburg area for many years, then joined the Army, serving in Germany and two tours of duty in Vietnam. After his discharge from the service, he lived and worked in Ohio, working as a grounds-keeper for 23 years at Crown Hill Cemetery. He retired in 2000 and enjoyed a firewood business at his home and spending time with his family and his Great Dane, Holly. John was a member of the VFW in Ravenna, and was a great sports fan who loved country music. He is survived by his wife, Sharon; son Roy Merrill; three stepdaughters and eight grandchildren; a brother, Pat Merrill; and three sisters, Pearl Karcz-marczyk, Roberta Covill and Sharon Bumford. He was preceded in death by a brother, Glenford, and sister-in-law, Jerry Merrill. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SUSETTE A. SUMMERS Susette A. Summers, 83, of Troy, Pa., went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 18, 2003. Born on September 9, 1920 in West Stewartstown, she was a daughter of the late Clyde and Odele (Bonney) Day. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Ralph Summers; five children, Greg and wife Gloria of Petersburg, Va., Gary of Williamsport, Pa., Gail and husband Stanley of Canton, Pa., Graham of Leesburg, Fla., and Gene and wife Jeannie of Canton; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Merton and wife Marcelle Day of Stewartstown; and a sister, Gloria Thompson of Concord. Susette worked at the Jones and Lawson Bond Office in Springfield, Vt., as an office manager, selling bonds during World War II. Her hobbies included interior decorating, reading and traveling. Ralph and Susette attended the Calvary alliance Chapel in Canton. Susette lived in Vermont and New Hampshire for 25 years, on a farm in Pennsylvania for 25 years and in Florida for 25 years. During her final years, she resided in Troy. Family and friends called on Monday afternoon, December 22 at the Gerald W. Vickery Jr. Funeral Home in Troy, followed by a funeral and committal service officiated by the Rev. David McIntire. Interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Troy at the convenience of the family. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IRVENA WILLIAMS Irvena L. Williams, 70, of Manchester, died on January 14, 2004 at her residence after a lengthy illness. She was born in West Stewartstown on April 16, 1933, the daughter of Irving and Edith (Hook) Grover. She was raised in Colebrook and lived there for many years. She had been a Manchester resident for the past 12 years. She had been employed by Tillotson Rubber Company and later worked for Crystal Laundry. She was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church. The family includes four sons, Jack Mickelboro of South Carolina, Frederick Mickelboro and Michael Williams, both of Manchester, and Roger Willliams of Danville; three daughters, Sally Austin of Searsport, Maine, Mary Cameron of Weare, and Penny Couture of Candia; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and her companion, Frederick Mickelboro. There are no calling hours. After cremation, a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Church. Urn burial will be in Colebrook at the family's convenience. Lambert Funeral Home and Crematory of Manchester, is in charge of arrangements.
