ALEXIS P. BESSETTE Alexis Pierre Bessette, 87, of Columbia, died late Friday evening January 24, 2004 at the Coös County Nursing Hospital in West Stewartstown following a long illness. He was born on August 8, 1916 in St. Edwidge, Quebec, the son of Oliver and Angelina (Routhier) Bessette. Mr. Bessette attended school in Canada, and was married to Jeannette Charest on June 1, 1943. Mr. Bessette worked as a logger in Canada before moving to the United States in 1948. He purchased a dairy farm in Columbia, which he ran for many years. Mr. Bessette was also a well-known North Country Christmas tree farmer. Mr. Bessette is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jeannette Bessette of West Stewartstown; two sons, Germain Bessette of Compton, Quebec, and Andre Bessette of Columbia; a daughter, Lorraine Routhier of Tempe, Ariz.; a brother, Romain Bessette of Coaticook, Quebec; two sisters, Therese Comeau of Ottawa, Canada, and Fernande Cournoyer of Coaticook; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by six brothers, Laurent, Jerome, Roland, Albini, Rosario and Fernand, and six sisters, Aurore, Claire, Olive, Cecile, Ruth and Alice. Calling hours were held on Monday afternoon and evening, January 26, and on Tuesday morning at the Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday morning at St. Brendan's Church in Colebrook, officiated by the Reverend Albert Bellefeuille. Burial will be in the spring at St. Brendan's Cemetery in Colebrook. Those who wish to make donations in memory of Alexis P. Bessette may donate to the Coös County Nursing Hospital Activities Fund, PO Box 10, West Stewartstown, NH 03597. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BRETT ³PUD² GROVER Mr. Brett "Pud" Grover, 60, of West Stewartstown, died on Wednesday morning, January 21, 2004 at the Coös County Nursing Hospital. Mr. Grover was born on March 27, 1943 in West Stewartstown, son of the late Glenn and Ruby (Clark) Grover. He was a laborer and worked for many different employers, including the Coös County Nursing Hospital in the housekeeping department. Mr. Grover is survived by four brothers, Brendon Grover of Red Hook, N.Y., Berkley Grover of Columbia, Bruce Grover of Colebrook and Barry Grover of West Stewartstown; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and by a brother, Bradley Grover. There will be no calling hours. A private graveside service for family and friends will be held in the spring at the Pittsburg Hollow Cemetery. Kribstock, 64, of Braintree, Vt., died on January 22, 2004 at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph. She was born on August 19, 1939 in Manchester, N.H., the daughter of George T. and Ruth (Canfield) Fowler. She attended Manchester schools and was graduated from Manchester High School in 1957. She then went on to nurse's training at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester. She was married to Reginald Kribstock on May 1, 1982 in Hancock. She worked for many years with her husband developing Braintree Balsams, where she was noted for her mulled cider at Christmastime. Her passions were nursing and gardening, and she also enjoyed spending time at their summer home on the lake in Pittsburg. She was a member of the Mycology Society. Family members include her husband, of Braintree; a daughter, Brenda Anglin of Man-chester; a son, Louis "Joe" Puglisi of Pittsburg; a stepson, Steve Kribstock of Randolph; two stepdaughters, Sheila Merriman of Tucson, Ariz., and Sheryl Cayer of Groton, N.H.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Eva Edwards of Laurel, Md. There are no calling hours. The funeral was held on Saturday at Day Funeral Home in Randolph, with the Rev. Kathy Eddy and Chuck Anthony officiating. Burial will be in Vermont Veterans Cemetery, Randolph Center, in the spring. Lyons, 89, of Carmel Valley, Calif., and formerly of Venice, Fla., and Canaan, died on January 17, 2004 at Community Hospital in Monterey, Calif. He was a World War II veteran and retired from the U.S. Department of Justice, where he worked for over 30 years. He was a member of the Masons and held many lay positions within the Episcopal Church. He will be very much missed by his family. Samuel was preceded in death by his wife, Winifred. He is survived by his daughters, Winifred Wharry of Kennett Square, Pa., and Meg Giberson of Carmel Valley, Calif.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 22 at All Saints Episcopal Church in Carmel.
