BEATON MARSH Mr. Beaton Marsh, 90, of Colebrook, died on Friday evening, June 11, 2004 at the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital. Beaton was born on May 6, 1914 in Colebrook, son of the late Harry N. and Anna (Beaton) Marsh. His mother died when he was six years old. When he was seven, Beaton and his father traveled by rail and steamship to the Yukon Territory, where his father's parents and brother were working gold claims and operating a roadhouse. The "lure of gold" faded for his father after a couple of years, and he and Beaton returned to Colebrook. Beaton was graduated from Colebrook Academy and thereafter pursued his engineering degree at the University of New Hampshire and the Massa-chusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He was hired by Colonel Burnside Value as a layout and transportation engineer for the 1939 World's Fair in New York. After World War II started, he continued working for Colonel Value on various defense projects in Puerto Rico, Florida and Tennessee. He served as an officer in the Army Corps of Engineers between 1944 and 1948, leaving active service to return to Colebrook and join in partnership with his father in the Harry N. Marsh Ford Auto Dealership. He continued as an active member of the Army Reserve, retiring as a major in the early 1970s. In 1951, he was married to the one true love of his life, Geraldine ³Jerry² (Lynch) Marsh. Shortly after his marriage, he commenced upon a lengthy career with Ethan Allen Furniture Corporation, beginning as the plant engineer at Beecher Falls and ending his career as the Director of Lumber Management, retiring in 1988. Beaton served as a selectman for the Town of Colebrook for 12 years and on various Colebrook school building construction committees. He was a Past Commander of the George L. OıNeil American Legion Post 62 and a Past Master of Evening Star Lodge #37, F&AM. After retirement, he shifted into first gear and enjoyed being a volunteer consultant with the International Executive Service Corps. He specialized in furniture manufacturing and business management, and performed engagements in Jamaica, Granada, Barbados, Honduras and Hungary. Also after retirement, he served four terms in the New Hampshire Legislature, including six years as Vice-Chairman of the Public Works Committee and two years as Chair of Enrolled Bills on the Legislative Administration Sub-Committee. Subsequent to his term in the legislature, he was appointed by the Governor to serve as one of four New Hampshire Council members on the Northern Forests Land Council for the states of New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont and New York. He loved to travel, and he and Jerry traveled the world as time permitted. He always returned to Colebrook. His love and devotion for the North Country and his neighbors never wavered. Beaton was the father of three admiring children, Harold M. Brown of Kenai, Alaska, Anna Beaton Lizier of Atkinson, N.H., and Nancy Magraw, who preceded him in death. He also enjoyed his eight grandchildren: Molly, Katy, Christian, Majken, Steffen, David, William and John. He was also preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife, Geraldine "Jerry" (Lynch) Marsh, on November 16, 1996. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 16 from 6-9 p.m. at the Jenkins Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Monadnock Congregational Church, with Pastor Larry Clough officiating and The Reverend Granvyl G. Hulse Jr. assisting. An interment service will follow at the Colebrook Village Cemetery. Parker, 86, of Clarksville, died on Thursday June 10, 2004 at the Concord Hospital in Concord after a brief illness. He was born on August 24, 1917 in West Stewartstown, the son of Edwin and Ida (Libby) Parker. He attended school in Canaan, and was a 1935 graduate of Canaan High School. He was married to Loretta M. Cote on July 13, 1941. Mr. Parker delivered milk for Clayton Tirrill for several years. He also worked on Goldie Pear-sonıs Farm and as a herdsman for the Coös County Farm in West Stewartstown, before purchasing his own farm in Clarksville in 1947. Mr. Parker worked his farm until the early 1990s. He enjoyed snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, family picnics, playing cards and board games. Most of all, he loved family life. He is survived by two sons, George F. Parker of Beecher Falls and Rueben Parker of Pittsburg; three daughters Mary Jane Forbes of Colebrook, NH, Mrs. Anthony (Lorene) Hartwell and Mrs. Donald (Lorraine) McKinnon, both of Clarksville; a brother, Robert Parker of Fairview Heights, Ill.; six sisters, Phyllis Mosher of Lunenburg, Vt., Lydia Haynes of Colebrook, Jeannette Kimball of Canaan, Janice Lyons of Colebrook, Rachel Langlais of Goffstown and Edwina Adair of Columbia; 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; and nu-merous nieces and nephews. Mr. Parker was predeceased by his loving wife of 61 years; Loretta; and by a brother and two sisters. There will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 16 at the Colebrook Village Cemetery. (Raymond) Sweatt, 70, of Millsfield, died on Tuesday afternoon, June 8, 2004 at the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook. Mrs. Sweatt was born on March 2, 1934 in her family home in Millsfield, daughter of the late Berl and Etta (Thurston) Raymond. She was a graduate of Colebrook Academy, Class of 1952, receiving Third Honors. She was married to Hartley Sweatt on September 6, 1952. She was an excellent homemaker and known as a wonderful cook, especially for her famous doughnuts. She loved to garden and enjoyed growing flowers, particularly orchids and African violets. For 36 years, she served as a 4-H leader, and worked as the Millsfield Town Clerk and the Errol correspondent for the News and Sentinel. She was an active member of the Errol Congregational Church, and was involved in numerous church sales. She will be remembered for her love of family and her many friends. Mrs. Sweatt is survived by her loving husband of more than 51 years, Hartley Sweatt of Millsfield; a son, Lewis "Chewy" Sweatt and his wife Paula of Millsfield; a daughter, Rita Hickey of Rochester; a daughter-in-law, Jane Sweatt; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Sweatt is preceded in death by her parents; a son, Lorence Sweatt; two brothers, Howard and Harvey; and two sisters, Agnes and Harriett. Calling hours were held on Monday, June 14 at the Jenkins Funeral Home. A funeral service was conducted on Tuesday afternoon at the Errol Congregational Church, with Pastor Larry Clough officiating, and followed by an interment service. Way, 41, of Colebrook, died at his home on Wednesday June 9, 2004. James was born a twin in Savanna, Ga., on December 29, 1962, the son of Harold and Ann (Cullen) Way. Raised in Lancaster, he was a 1981 graduate of White Mountains Regional High School. A great love of his life was cooking. Ten years he cooked at Weeks Medical Center and several years at Carlos O'Brien's in Lancaster. He was also em-ployed for a time at Hitchners, Littleton, and Quality Control Stitching in St. Johnsbury. Family members include two sons, Eric and Scott Way, both of St. Johnsbury; two daughters, Melinda Way and Brandy Ginouard, both of Massachusetts; his mother, Ann C. Way of Littleton; his father, Harold Way of Colebrook; five brothers and sisters, Guy Way of Littleton, Mary Ellen Bishop of Pooler, Ga., Daniel Way of Dalton, Ann Marie Dubreuil of Lancaster, and Brad Way of Ansen, Maine; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. His twin brother Joseph C. Way recently predeceased him on May 21, 2004. Visiting hours were held Tuesday evening at the Bailey Funeral Home in Lancaster. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
