ROGER COOPER Roger D. Cooper, 51, of Bangor, Maine, died on June 26, 2004 in Millinocket as a result of an accident on Mt. Katahdin. He was born on November 25, 1952 in West Stewartstown, son of the Rev. Herbert and Bertha (Smith) Cooper. He was graduated from Noble High School in Berwick, Maine, in 1971. In 1975 he was graduated from Rutgers University, Cook College, with a bachelor of arts degree in forestry, and received his master's degree from the University of Maine in Agricultural Economics. Roger spent two years as a Peace Corps volunteer in Honduras, and another year working with the Honduras government. He was an employee of Bangor Hydro-Electric Company for approximately 15 years. He is survived by his wife, Lori (Fineberg) Cooper of Bangor; a sister and her husband, Laurice and David Jackson of Berwick; three brothers and their wives, Joseph and Irene Cooper of Chesterfield, N.H., Col. Charles Cooper, Retired U.S.A.F. and Beverly of Springfield, Va., Nathan "Dick" and Kelley Cooper of Westport, Mass.; special niece and nephew Kathleen and Kenneth Jackson; and several other nieces and nephews. A service of remembrance will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Irving Koelker officiating. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to Manna Ministries, PO Box 2763, Bangor, ME 04402-2763. ARTHUR DAUPHINAIS Arthur O. Dauphinais, 91, of Laconia, died on June 23, 2004 at the St. Francis Home, following an extended period of failing health. He was born in Fitchburg, Mass., on February 8, 1913, the son of William and Rosalie (Bedard) Dauphinais. He was raised in Enfield, N.H., one of fifteen children in his family, and served in the Army during World War II. After the war he settled in Laconia, and was employed as a machinist by Scott and Williams until his retirement in 1975. Mr. Dauphinais was a quiet and devoted family man who loved to read and tend to his garden. He was a long time parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Laconia. His wife, Margurite-Dunn Dauphinais, died in 1959. He was also predeceased by a son, Francis, in 1975. Family members include two daughters, Estelle Lyons and her husband Earl of Laconia, and Madeline Dauphinais, also of Laconia; two sons, Eugene Dauphinais of Laconia and Philip Dauphinais of Colebrook; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lena Dauphinais of Laconia, Theresa Lozeau of Enfield and Regina Dauphinais of Cheshire, Conn.; a brother, Wilfred Dauphinais of Enfield; and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on June 26, with burial following at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Laconia. FREDERICK SNARE Frederick Snare III, 81, of Dorset and Averill, Vt., died on Tuesday June 22, 2004. He was born in Englewood, N.J., son of Edith Dulles and Frederick Snare Jr. He attended the Taft School and Wesleyan University before joining the Marine Corps to serve in the Pacific during World War II. He lived in Wilton, Conn., and New York City while a partner at F.I. DuPont. He moved to Bedford, N.Y., when he was remarried to Sally Schoellkopf and worked with Renwick Realty. He moved to Dorset in 1995 at the time of her death. The Snare family has had a camp in Averill since 1927, following years of fishing at Quimby Country. He leaves a son, Derick, and granddaughter, Audrey, of Somerville, Mass.; three step-sons, Rick Kelley of Seattle, Wash., Philip Kelley of Stowe and Peter Kelley of Rutland, Vt.; two sisters, Dorothy Warner and Margorie Chapman of Dorset; a brother, William Snare of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held on Tuesday, June 29 at the United Church of Dorset.
