ALEXANDER GUAY Alexander J. Guay, 90, of Colebrook, died on Wednesday morning, August 11 at the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook following a long illness. He was born on September 4, 1913 in Beecher Falls, the son of Omer and Celina (Chaloux) Guay. Mr. Guay attended school in Beecher Falls and worked on farms, but went to work as a woods cook for Washburn Logging at an early age. He also worked on the construction of Murphy Dam in Pittsburg. Mr. Guay was married to Germaine Lacombe on August 22, 1955. Besides running his farm, he also drove the Stewartstown school bus for over 20 years. During the winter he cut and delivered wood throughout the local area, at first with horses and later by truck. Mr. Guay also ran a maple sugar lot, where he frequently held sugar parties for friends and relatives. He was a good neighbor who frequently used his tractor to pull unfortunate motorists out of the mud and snow on Piper Hill Road. The family includes his wife of 49 years, Germaine Guay of Colebrook; seven sons, William Guay and Claude Guay, both of Stewartstown, Theodore Guay of Manchester, Arnaud Thibodeau and wife Ruth of Greenville, Rejean Thibodeau and wife Therese of Enfield, Conn., Renald Guay and wife Gabrielle of East Hereford, Quebec, and Daniel Guay and wife Mary Sue of Hazel Green, Ala.; three daughters, Mrs. Andrè (Francine) Champagne of Stewartstown, Dolores Jackson and the late Gary Jackson of North Grafton, Mass, Mrs. Jimmy (Joanne) Gilbert of Stewartstown; three sisters, Gracienne Cormier of Fremont, Rachel Moreau of Springfield, Mass., and Leona Berube of Florida; 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by five brothers and two sisters. Calling hours were held on Friday afternoon and evening, August 13, and on Saturday morning at the Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday morning at St. Albert's Church in Stewartstown, officiated by the Reverend Craig Cheney. Burial followed at St. Albert¹s Cemetery in Stewartstown. Those who wish to make donations in memory of Alexander J. EMERILDA ROY Emerilda Pivin Roy died peacefully at the age of 93 on Sunday, August 15, 2004 at the Coaticook hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Amédé Roy; dear mother of Fernand (Suzanne Paquette), Gérard (Huguette Maheu), Georgette (Jean St-Pierre), and Roger (Adrienne Lessard); and grandmother of 18. Visiting hours will be held at Charron and Son funeral Home, 228 Child Street, Coaticook, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Thursday at 1 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 3 p.m. at St-Jean Church in Coaticook. REV. RALPH SABINE Rev. Ralph Sabine, 89, of Somersworth, died on August 9, 2004 in Presque Isle, Maine, following a brief illness. He was born on March 27, 1915 in Norton, N.B., Canada, the son of Rev. Leonard and Laura (Boyd) Sabine. In addition to his wife, Mary, of 61 years, he is survived by two sons, Ralph Sabine of Sanford, Maine, and Stephen Sabine of Newington; four daughters, Mary-Elizabeth McKay of Ellicott City, Md., Lois McDivitt of Presque Isle, Maine, Jacquelyn Timme of Port Orchard, Wash. and Carolyn Sabine of Somersworth; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Ronald Sabine, and many nieces and nephews. Ralph and his wife Mary started their ministry in the Reformed Baptist Church and continued it in the Church of the Nazarene and, for the last 22 years of full-time ministry, in the New Hampshire Conference of the United Methodist Church. In the N.H. Conference, he served pastorates in Monroe and North Monroe, Canaan, Vt., and Pittsburg, Bethlehem and Whitefield, and Exeter and East Kingston. After official retirement in June 1980, he and Mary remained active in ministry, especially through visitation on the shut-ins and elderly in nursing homes and hospitals for St. John's UMC, where he served as Associate Pastor Emeritus. A memorial service was held on Saturday at St. John United Methodist Church in Dover. Interment will be in Woodstock, N.B., Canada. Donations may be made in Rev. Sabine's name to the memorial fund at St. John¹s UMC. The Cremation Society of New Hampshire is in charge of arrangements. ANTON SCHANZ Anton "Tony" Schanz 92, of Concord, died on April 12, 2004 at Havenwood retirement community. Mr. Schanz was born in New York City on February 19, 1912, the son of Rose (Doser) and Josef Schanz. He was graduated from Bryant High School in Manhattan and attended New York University. He lived in Astoria and Westbury, N.Y., Arlington, Mass., and Pittsburg. In the 1930s he worked in the stock market, earning $12.50 per week, and played football for the Vikings, a New York City team, for $25. He became an air traffic controller for the Civil Aviation Agency at La Guardia and Idelwild. He retired from the FAA in 1973 after 32 years of service and moved to Pittsburg. Mr. Schanz was married to Elizabeth "Bette" Mara in 1936. He was a loving husband to his wife of 57 years. Mrs. Schanz died on September 21, 1993. Family members include four children, Anton Schanz of Haverhill, Meryl Pascarella of Glen Cove, N.Y., Susan Morton of Plymouth and Donald Schanz of Littleton; and six grandchildren.
