GRAVESIDE SERVICE PAUL BOBEY Doris Helen Berwick, 71, of Loudon, died on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 at Concord Hospital. She was born in Laconia, the daughter of Alfred B. and Lena M. (Champagne) Decato. She worked on the assembly line for Sprague Electric for 18 years and at the front desk at the Concord YMCA for 18 years. She was also the bookkeeper for her husband¹s company, Berwick Lumber. She served on the Loudon Planning Board for 16 years and was chairman for four years. She was a member of the Pulmonary group and program chairperson of TOPS. She was a loving and spirited mother, grandmother and friend, who lived life to the fullest. She was an avid snowmobiler, and enjoyed their camp and North Country friends. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Kenneth "Mike" Berwick of Loudon; a son, Michael Berwick of Concord; two daughters, Susan Mounsey of Concord and Diane Rourke of Warsaw, Ind.; five grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and two sisters, Arlene Klocek of Candia and Maggie Emmons of Concord. Calling hours were held on Thursday in the Church St. Chapel at the Bennett Funeral Home in Concord. Funeral services were on Friday at the funeral home, with burial in Moore Cemetery, Loudon. It was Doris' wish that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the CRVNA Hospital House, PO Box 1797, Concord, NH 03302-1797. BETH BORDERS Beth Mason Borders of Hanover, N.H., and Ft. Myers, Fla., died on October 12, 2004 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the wife of Alton C. Borders, who died in September, 1983. She was born in 1918 in Sutton, N.H., the daughter of William E. and Stella Fowler Mason. She was a homemaker who loved to travel. Her bag was always packed underneath her bed, just in case someone said, "Let's go." She loved life and had a very diversified one. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by two sons, Bruce E. Borders and his wife Nancy of Proctorsville, Vt., and Alton C. Borders II and his wife Susan of Carbondale, Pa., and Pittsburg, N.H.; two grandsons and two great-granddaughters. She was the oldest of five sisters and three brothers. She was predeceased by one brother, William E. Mason Jr. of Meriden, Conn. Surviving are four sisters, Dorothy Dumont of Wallingford, Conn., Marion Louiselle of Middlefield, Conn., Kay Mailhot of Meriden, Conn., Richard of Claremont, N.H., and two brothers, Richard Mason of Milford, Mass., and Mervin Mason of Punta Gorda, Fla., and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the First Free Will Baptist Church in North Sutton on October 30. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1101 Hill Street, Jessup, PA 18434, or to the donor's favorite charity. AARON CHADBOURN JR. Aaron W. "Chad" Chadbourn Jr., 88, of Lee, died on October 11, 2004 at home. Born in Madbury on July 3, 1916, he was the son of Aaron W. and Marian (Libby) Chadbourn Sr. He was raised on Cape Cod and moved to Lee in 1946. He was graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1938. During World War II he served in the Marine Corps, stationed at Pearl Harbor. In 1946 he started Broadfield Farm in Lee, which he operated for 10 years. For several years, he served in the state legislature and was active in Lee politics. He later worked for Farmers Home until retiring. For more than 40 years, he was a member of the Jeremiah Smith Grange in Lee. He was also a member of Lee Church Congregational, where he played the organ for many years. He loved children and playing Santa at the Church Christmas Fair. He was a life member of Lee Memorial Post 10676 VFW, a member of Strafford County Soil Conservation, and a former volunteer with the Lee Fire Department. He was predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Hannah "Sis" (Sheppard) Chadbourn, in 1985, and by his second wife, Elizabeth (Batchelder) Smart Chadbourn, in 1991. The family includes his daughter, Joan C. Brady of Northwood; three grandchildren, Aaron W. Brady of Canaan, Vt., Ann Louise Thibeault of Northwood and Seth E. Newman of Phoenix, Ariz.; five great-grandchildren; longtime caregiver Jack Brown; and several nieces and nephews. LUCIEN CHAREST Lucien I. Charest, 58, of Nashua, died on Saturday, October 9, 2004 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack. Mr. Charest was born in St. Herménégilde, Quebec, on November 20, 1945, a son of Therese (Desorcy) Charest and the late Napoleon Charest. He was the husband of Therese (Gauthier) Charest of Nashua. Mr. Charest was a Nashua resident for many years and was a communicant of St. Louis de Gonzague Church. He had been employed by AMSA Armored Car, and was formerly part owner in the R.H. Anderson Construction Co. He was an Army veteran. Mr. Charest was a member of the American Legion Post 483 and of the Lafayette Club, and a Knight of Columbus # 122 for 33 years. Besides his wife, and mother Therese (Desorcy) of Coaticook, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Colleen Charest and Eric and Danielle Charest, all of Nashua five grandchildren; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Cecile Dion and Gisele and Victor Tardif, all of Nashua, and Pauline Charest of Ascot Corner, Quebec; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Pauline Charest of Colebrook; and several nieces, nephews and cousins A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday morning in St. Louis de Gonzague Church. Robert William Gooch Sr., 80, died on Friday morning, October 15, 2004 at the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook. He was born on August 31, 1924 in North Brookfield, Mass., the son of the Reverend William S. and Marion (Tobey) Gooch. Mr. Gooch was a graduate of Peterborough High School, Class of 1942. After graduation he joined the Navy, where he served in the Pacific theatre. After the war he was discharged as a lieutenant junior grade, and went on to attend the University of New Hampshire, graduating in 1948. He was married to Ellie Currier on November 25, 1950. Mr. Gooch purchased Hill's Department Store in 1965 and ran it until selling to his son George in 1990. He was an auctioneer and ran the North Country Auction Service with his brother-in-law, Rick Stickney, for over 20 years. A member of the Colebrook Fire Department from 1959 until 1984, Mr. Gooch served as Colebrook's fire chief from 1976 until 1984. He had served as a director of the First Colebrook Bank since 1972, as the bank¹s vice president from 1985 to 1997, and as bank president from 1998 to July of 2001. He was also the vice-chairman of the board of directors of the First Colebrook Bank. He was chairman of the First Colebrook Bancorp since July of 2001, and had also served as vice-chairman and member of that organization since 1984. He was a founder and original board member of the Colebrook Development Corporation. Mr. Gooch was extremely active in community affairs, and had served as assistant town moderator for the Town of Colebrook. He was a past member of the planning board and the school board, and served as the commissioner of the Colebrook Water and Sewer Department. He was a longtime active member of the Colebrook Area Historical Society. Mr. Gooch worshipped at the Colebrook Congregational Church, where he served as Church Moderator. Mr. Gooch is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Ellie Gooch of Colebrook; two sons, George Gooch of Colebrook, and Robert Gooch Jr. of Columbia; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Constance Perry and Marjorie Davis. There were no calling hours. A memorial service was held on Sunday afternoon, October 17 at the Monadnock Congregational Church in Colebrook. Pastor Rebecca Larson officiated, assisted by the Reverend Oliver Northcott and the Reverend Albert Bellefeuille. Burial will be private. Those who wish to make donations in memory of Bob W. Newman Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. MICHELLE HAYNES Michelle C. Haynes, 51, of Stratford, died suddenly at her home on Friday, October 15, 2004. Mrs. Haynes was born on June 30, 1953, in St. Malo, Quebec, daughter of the late Denis and Rose (Fontaine) Crete. Mrs. Haynes was graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1972. She worked for a short period of time at Beecher Falls Division of Ethan Allen and served her country in the Army Reserve. She was graduated from Hesser College with an associate¹s degree in paralegal studies and worked for Judge Ivorey Cobb. She was employed as a bookkeeper for Nugent Oil Company for 14 years, and stayed at home for a period of time raising her daughter, Tiffany. Recently, she worked in the kitchen at the Stratford High School. She was a very active and dedicated parishioner for Sacred Heart Catholic Church in North Stratford, and was involved in numerous town and school activities. She enjoyed crocheting and baking, and will be forever remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister and friend. Mrs. Haynes is survived by her husband, Paul Haynes of Stratford; her daughter, Tiffany Haynes of Stratford; a brother, Gaetan Crete of Colebrook; three sisters, Gynette Bouchard of Goffstown, Priscilla Lambert of Stewartstown and Monique Crete of Goffstown; her husband¹s parents, Elwood and Beatrice Haynes of Stratford; a brother-in-law, Larry Haynes of Weare; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours were held on Sunday afternoon and evening, October 17 at the Jenkins Funeral Home in Colebrook. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in North Stratford, with The Reverend Daniel Deveau as celebrant. WESLEY MASTERS Wesley Gordon Masters, 76, of Orford, died on Saturday, October 16, 2004 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Boston following a brief illness. He was born on December 23, 1927 in Pittsburg, the son of Weldon Irving and Florence E. (Foster) Masters. He served in the Army for three years following World War II. Wesley was employed as a commercial artist and lived in Michigan during the summer months and Florida during the winter. He returned to New England in 1975, and ultimately to Orford in 1978. Wesley was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing in his younger years. He also enjoyed the outdoors and cross-country skiing. He was a member of the American Legion in White River Junction, Vt., and a member of the Union Village (Vt.) Methodist Church, where he was very active in its affairs. He even painted a large portrait of Jesus that adorns the church wall. He is survived by five sisters, Rita C. Lyons of Middletown, N.Y.; Betty J. Johnson of Pittsburg; Anita E. Francoeur of Westbrook, Maine; Ethel M. Delcourt of Gorham, Maine and Pearl Masters; three brothers, Weldon S. of Bismark, Ark., Randall R. of Texas, and Larry; and many nieces and nephews. His sister, Dorothy Karasiewicz and his brother, Russell E., predeceased him. There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 21 at 10 a.m. in the Union Village Methodist Church. A reception will follow. Burial will be at the Hollow Cemetery in Pittsburg later in the day. EVANGELINE SULLIVAN Evangeline F. Sullivan, 82, of Groveton, died on October 14, 2004 at home after a lengthy illness. Born in Canada on January 23, 1922, she was the daughter of Idola and Noellie (St. Pierre) Belleville. She enjoyed spending winters in Florida with her husband, Mike Sullivan. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, and she enjoyed crossword puzzles and playing golf and bingo. Her husband died in 1999. The family includes a son, Roger Brousseau of Canaan; three daughters, Diane Glidden of Center Barnstead, Shirley Berube of Groveton and Martha Philbrick of Epsom; three sisters, Marcelle Belanger of Newmarket, Ontario, Lise Lizzie of Berlin and Jeannine Belleville of Deauville, Quebec; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. There are no calling hours. A memorial Mass was held on Monday at St. Francis Xavier Church in Groveton, with the Rev. Craig Cheney officiating. Burial followed in Northumberland Cemetery, Groveton.
