Amadon Mother, grandmother, farmer DANVILLE, Vt. Ñ Natalie L. Amadon, 90, died late Thursday evening, March 4, 2004 at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital. She was born in Wolcott, Vt. on June 11, 1913, the daughter of Charles B. and Cynthia (George) LaClair. Mrs. Amadon had worked at both the old Brightlook Hospital and at NVRH. She farmed with her husband on several farms prior to their last farm on the JoeÕs Brook Road in Danville, Vt. Recently, she resided at the St. Johnsbury Health & Rehabilitation Center, The Pines in Lyndon, Vt. and Woodside House in Danville. The family includes her son, Donald Amadon and his wife Leola of Lunenburg, Vt.; a daughter, Barbara Hill and her husband Ronald of North Danville, Vt.; a son-in-law, Kenneth Walsh of Barnet, Vt.; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Her husband, Allen D. Amadon, died in 1977 and her oldest child, Dorothy Walsh, in 2000. Public graveside services will be held on Thursday, May 20 at 3 p.m. at the Howland Cemetery in West Burke (second cemetery on left going toward Burke Hollow). There will be no visiting hours. Herve Boire Charter member Knights of Columbus COLEBROOK Ñ Herve Boire, 82, died on March 2, 2004, at the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital. Mr. Boire was born on Sept. 18, 1921, in Berlin, a son of the late Edy and Marie Rose (Hebert) Boire. He was a longtime farmer, and had also been employed at the Stratford Mill. He had also been employed at Nash Equipment and Marchesseault Tree Farm roping Christmas trees. His many hobbies included reading, traveling and spending time with his family. He was a member of St. Brendan Roman Catholic Church. He was also a charter member of Our Lady of Grace Council 3028 Knights of Columbus, Columbia, taking his first degree on April 1, 1947. Family members include his wife Jeannine (Desautels) Boire of Colebrook; six sons, Joselyn Boire of West Stewartstown, Germain Boire, Serge Rouleau, Dennis Rouleau and Norman Boire, all of Colebrook, and Peter Rouleau of Columbia; seven daughters, Blandine Shallow of Jefferson, Helen Phillips of Hampstead, Rita Gilbert of Colebrook, Micheline Lambert and Diane Walsh Thomas, both of Manchester, Judy Erbaker of Holiday, Fla., and Francoise Johnson of Newmarket; his brothers and sisters, Roger Boire of Sawyerville, P.Q., Canada, Gilberte Fauteaux of Sherbrooke, P.Q., Canada, Maurice Boire of Coaticook, P.Q., Canada, Rollande Montminy of St. Malo, P.Q., Canada, Carmen Boire, of Magog, P.Q., Canada, Rosaire Boire of St. Malo, P.Q., Canada, Real Boire of Sherbrooke, P.Q., Canada, Lucienne Lacombe of Sherbrooke, P.Q., Canada; 26 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Brooks Veteran, farmer, selectman COLEBROOK Ñ Holman M. Brooks, 85, of Diamond Pond Road, died on March 1, 2004 at the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital. He was born on Aug. 31, 1918, in Stewartstown, the son of Harold and Marion (McConnell) Brooks. Mr. Brooks served in the Army during World War II, receiving an honorable discharge in September 1945. For many years, he owned and operated a farm, during which time he also worked for Beecher Falls Division of Ethan Allen. He later sold the farm and worked for Tillotson Rubber Company until retiring at age 70. He loved being outdoors and gardening. He also enjoyed animals. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and George L. OÕNeil American Legion and Auxiliary Post 62, Colebrook. He had served as selectman in Clarksville. Family members include two daughters, Marcia Pond of Plymouth, and Barbara Hann of Colebrook; two sons, Stephen Brooks of Columbia, and Thomas Brooks of Colebrook; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Howard Brooks of Columbia, Lester Brooks of Clarksville, and Roy Brooks of Stewartstown; two sisters, Ramona Brooks of Colebrook, and Rita Brigham of Stewartstown; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. His wife Eleanor Brooks died previously, on June 14, 1980. Calling hours were held on Thursday, March 4, at the Jenkins Funeral Home in Colebrook. Cass Enjoyed people LANCASTER Ñ George D. Cass, 62, of Powder Hill Drive, died suddenly at his home on Saturday morning, March 6, 2004. Mr. Cass was born in Lancaster on April 23, 1941, and had been a lifelong resident. For many years he was employed at the Connecticut River Valley Dairy, Lancaster, and also worked several years for Chianbro, Pittsfield, Maine, and Miles Pond, Whitefield. He was a well-known local who enjoyed socializing with people at downtown stores and at the Laundromat owned by his son and daughter-in-law. Family members include three sons, Del Cass and his wife Joy of Jefferson, Donny Cass of Whitefield, Wayne Reed Sr. and his wife Valerie of Jefferson; two daughters, Lori McKearney of Lancaster, Louisia Cass of West Stewartstown; his mother, Ernestine (Cass) Blanchard of Whitefield; a sister, Joyce Dupont of Lancaster; thirteen grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. There are no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday evening March 10, at 7 p.m. at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. The Rev. Dean A. Stiles, pastor of the Jefferson Christian Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the spring in Northumberland Cemetery. Clauss, 81, of North Road, died on Tuesday, March 2, 2004 at her home. She was born in Percy on January 28, 1923, the daughter of Frederick and Alice (Knights) Hand. Mrs. Clauss was raised in Percy, one of nine children. At 14 she moved to Lancaster and was a caregiver for Mrs. Ida Page. She was also employed at the Lancaster National Bank until her marriage to Frederic R. Clauss on March 12, 1955. She then became a full-time homemaker, raising three children and assisting with the operation of the family farm. Eventually she returned to the workplace where she was employed at Timberland Machines, Lancaster Footware, and Ames Department Store. She was a talented knitter and an accomplished cook. She was a member of St. PaulÕs Episcopal Church. Family members include a son, Frederic F. Clauss and his wife, Ellie of Lancaster; a daughter, Anne Clauss of Manchester; a daughter-in-law, Becky Clauss of Lake Worth, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Joshua, Olivia, Jessica, Natalie, Jared, Alicia, Bianca and Morgan; a brother, James Hand of North Stratford; and many nieces and nephews. Her husband, Frederic and son, Charles died previously. In accordance with Mrs. ClaussÕs wishes, there were no visiting hours. A memorial service was held on Saturday, March 6 at St. PaulÕs Church, Lancaster. The Rev. David Rose, pastor, officiated. Burial will be at a later date in St. PaulÕs Memorial Garden. Mazzei, 90, of Maple Street, died on March 7, 2004 at Grafton County Nursing Home in Haverhill. He was born on November 11, 1913 in Quincy, Mass., the son of Thomas and Gina (Marchini) Mazzei. Mr. Mazzei was graduated from Quincy High School, Class of 1932, and lived most of his life in this community. He joined the 101st Company Civilian Conservation Corps. In 1934 he came to the Lincoln-Woodstock area. During World War II, Mr. Mazzei worked at the Quincy Fore River Navy shipyards and after the war he returned to Lincoln to work for the former Franconia Paper Co. He later became head of maintenance for Loon Mountain and worked many years as a gardener and landscaper for Indian Head Resort, retiring in 2000. Mr. Mazzei was a 4th Degree life member of the Knights of Columbus, Delaney Council 1730, and the OÕNeil 4th Degree Assembly 636, Littleton. He was a communicant of St. Joseph Church. The family includes his wife of 68 years, Edna (Boyle) Mazzei of Lincoln; a daughter, Rosemary Mazzei of Manchester; three sons, Thomas Mazzei of Lincoln, the Rev. John Mazzei of Nashua, and Eugene Mazzei of Belmont; six grandchildren; three brothers, Vincent Mazzei of Bow, Charles Mazzei of Braintree, Mass., and Thomas Mazzei of Niagara Falls, N.Y.; three sisters, Gemma Lomanno of Quincy, Mass., and Mary Mazzei and Pauline Mazzei, both of Bow; nieces and nephews. There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 10 (today) at St. Joseph Church, Church Street. Spring burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Woodard Remembered for helping others COLEBROOK Ñ Kelly A. Woodard, 35, died at her Monadnock Village apartment on Wednesday, March 3, 2004. She was born on February 7, 1969 in Lancaster, the daughter of Raymond and Norma (Davis) Woodard. Ms. Woodard attended school in Berlin and was a 1987 graduate of Berlin High School. She was employed by the Androscoggin Valley Hospital in Berlin as a cook and kitchen aide. After moving to Colebrook in 2001 she was employed in the canteen by The Balsams Grand Resort Hotel in Dixville Notch. She enjoyed daytime television, camping, fishing, and helping others at Monadnock Village. She particularly enjoyed time spent with family. The family includes two brothers, Francis Woodard of Phoenix, Ariz., and Roland Woodard of Colebrook; a sister, Tammy Woodard of Columbia; her aunt and uncle, Elva and Fred Woodard of East Colebrook; four nieces, a nephew and two great nephews. Her son, Christopher Woodard, died in 1993. Funeral services were held on Monday, March 8 at St. BrendanÕs Church. Burial will be in the spring at St. James Cemetery in Island Pond, Vt.
