Colborn Secretary for the CIA LANCASTER Ñ Allegra T. ÒLeeÓ Colborn, 95, died on Monday morning April 26, 2004, at the Country Village Health Care Center, Lancaster. Mrs. Colborn was born in Chillicothe, Ill., on June 17, 1908, the daughter of Charles and Mary (Topping) Truitt. Mrs. Colborn was a retired secretary for the Central Intelligence Agency, Washington, D.C., and a former resident of Deerfield Beach, Fla. She was a 50-plus-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Family members include a son and daughter-in-law, John A. Colborn and wife Nancy of Lancaster; three grandchildren, Janet Roberts of Lincoln, Lynn Andrews of Meredith, and William H. Colborn of Lancaster; and nine great-grandchildren. Her husband John A. Colborn Jr. died in 1978. There are no visiting hours. Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. Nicole S. Cote Berlin High grad BERLIN Ñ Nicole S. Cote, 19, of 416 Burgess St., Berlin, died unexpectedly on Saturday, April 24, 2004 off of Route 110 in Berlin. She was born on October 9, 1984 in Berlin, the daughter of Jean and Diane (Frechette) Cote. A resident of Berlin and Milan all of her life, Nicole was a member of Good Shepherd Parish. She had been employed as a waitress at the Yokohama Restaurant in Gorham. She was a graduate of Berlin High School, Class of 2002, and also had attended Newbury College in South Carolina. Family members include her father, Jean Cote and his finacee Diane Rice of Canaan, Vt. and Milan, N.H.; two sisters, Josee Robinson and husband Roy of Milan, and Celine Cote of Hampton; maternal grandparents, Louis Frechette and Emerentienne (Leclerc) Frechette of East Hereford, PQ, Canada; paternal grandmother, Pauline Cote of West Stewartstown; two nieces, Adrianna Robinson and Delaney Robinson of Milan; and several aunts and uncles. Her mother, Diane F. (Frechette) Cote died on June 9, 1998. Her paternal grandfather, Oscar Cote, also died previously. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 1, at 10 a.m. at the St. AlbertÕs Church in W. Stewartstown. Interment will be at St. AlbertÕs Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Grattage Was nurse in WomenÕs Army Corps LANCASTER Ñ Joan L. Grattage, 69, of Page Hill Road, died on Saturday, April 24, 2004, at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon. She was born in Pittsfield, on June 19, 1934, the daughter of Clayton and Viola (Zanes) Frenette. Joan was raised in Pittsfield and later moved to Jefferson in her youth. During the Korean Conflict she served as a nurse with the WomenÕs Army Corps. Returning home she continued her nursing career at Beatrice D. Weeks Memorial Hospital, Lancaster. She was later employed at the Kent Nursing Home, Lancaster, through the transition to Country Village Health Care Center and Genesis Eldercare for a combined total of 25 years until her health forced her to retire. For several years after she continued on as a volunteer. For many years she taught Sunday school and served five years as a Girl Scout Leader. She was a Charter Member of the WomenÕs Memorial in Washington, DC. Knitting hats at home was one of her favorite pastimes. Family members include her husband, Stanley H. Grattage of Lancaster; two sons, Roger Grattage of Florida, and Glen ÒBuddyÓ Allin of Manchester; three daughters, Amber Curtis of Manchester, Wendy McKinnon of Haverhill, and Joanie Johnson of Pelham; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Charles ÒSqueakÓ Frenette of Lancaster. Her two sons, Stan W. Grattage and Kenneth C. Grattage, and a brother, Clayton Frenette died previously. Visiting hours were held on Tuesday, April 27, at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday morning (today) at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow in the Summer Street Cemetery, Lancaster. Signe Laurhammer Mother, grandmother BERLIN Ñ Signe (Paulson) Laurhammer, 96, formerly of 8 Granite Street, died on Saturday evening, April 24, 2004 at the Androscoggin Valley Hospital. She was born in Berlin on December 8, 1907, the daughter of Martin and Johanna (Swenson) Paulson and had lived in the North Country most of her life. The family includes a son, Einar Laurhammer of Jefferson and El Paso, Tex.; a daughter, Shirley Gagnon of North Wales, Penn.; five grandchildren, Steven, Ingrid, Carla, Eric and Faith; two nieces, Gloria Orr and June Jensen; two nephews, Melvin Johnson and Philip Jensen; and several cousins. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time. Interment will be in the Old City Cemetery. The Bryant Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Charles E. Manchester Veteran, active in Scouts GROVETON Ñ Charles ÒChuckÓ E. Manchester, 62, of Brown Road died on April 24, 2004 at Weeks Medical Center after a sudden illness. Born on June 16, 1941 in Lawrence, Mass., he was a son of Harry E. and Dorothy Mar (Butler) Manchester. He had been a resident of Groveton since 1992, coming from Allenstown. He was raised in Podunk, Mass., and was graduated from Wakefield High School, class of 1958. He was a veteran of the Air Force, and was in the non-active reserves for 10 years. Chuck was very active in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts when his sons were younger. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He played cribbage on the Internet with people from all over the world and had some very high scores. The family includes his wife of 20 years, Shirley (Robinson) Manchester of Groveton; his children, Jeffrey, Julie, Janelle and Chuck; grandchildren, Dylan, Keegan, Nikita, Kaden and Cera; his brother Gary and wife Cheryl; nieces and nephews. Calling hours were held on Monday, April 26 at the Main-Armstrong Funeral Home in Groveton. A funeral service followed at the funeral home with the Rev. Warren Lloyd Tippitt Army veteran, window washer GROVETON Ñ Warren Lloyd Tippitt, 81, of Spring Street, Groveton, died on April 21, 2004 at the Morrison Nursing Home in Whitefield after a lengthy illness. Born on August 30, 1922 in Groveton, a son of Robert G. and Ellen (Morgan) Tippitt, he lived his whole life in Groveton. He was an Army veteran, who served in France during World War II. Warren worked for 27 years for Groveton Papers, then started his own window cleaning business and washed windows for 35 years from Twin Mountain to Groveton until he had to stop due to health reasons. The family includes his son, Lloyd and his wife Timonee Tippitt of Northumberland; two daughters, Mary Ellen and her husband Mark Coffer of Lawton, Okla., and Anna Marie and her husband Daniel Harrison of Groveton; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Doris Tetreault, Lorraine Tetreault and Evelyn Miller, all of Groveton; one brother, Robert Tippitt of Stark; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Four sisters, Alice Decuna, Lucy Allin, Sarah Newton and Matilda ÒVernieÓ LeMay died previously. Bernice was a graduate of Groveton High School, class of 1959. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Stratford.
