Catherine Bradley EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass. -- Catherine (Laughrey) Bradley, 94 died on July 10, 2004 in East Longmeadow, surrounded by her family. Born on June 8, 1910 in Lancaster, N.H., she was the daughter of the late Michael and Margaret (Morin) Laughrey. Catherine attended school in Lancaster and was graduated from Lancaster Academy in 1927. A graduate of Springfield Hospital School of Nursing in 1931, she worked as a nursing supervisor at both Springfield and Wesson Memorial Hospitals, now Baystate Medical Center. She was the former president and longtime treasurer of the Springfield Hospital School of Nursing Alumnae Association. She was also a communicant of St. Michael’s Church in East Longmeadow. Catherine loved the outdoors, especially when the sun was shining, no matter what the season. She enjoyed keeping a garden, picking wild berries and hiking. Her love of fresh garden vegetables and well-prepared natural foods has been passed along to her children. She also enjoyed baking and her raised doughnuts dipped in maple syrup were especially loved by all. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, Springfield Symphony and Tanglewood Concerts and traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada and toured Ireland, France, England, Germany and Italy and wintered in Florida for many years. She was a volunteer at Laughing Brook Sanctuary and the Senior Center of East Longmeadow, giving flu shots and delivering Meals on Wheels and she volunteered with the Civil Defense during WWII. Catherine was a member of the Girl Scouts and won a National Award for leadership while at Camp Andree Clark in Briar Cliff Manor, N.Y. She was both a Brownie and a Girl Scout Leader and Cub Scout Den Mother in East Longmeadow. She was also a member of the Audubon Society, the Appalachian Mountain Club and the East Longmeadow Garden Club. She was the widow of Hayden S. Bradley, who died in 1982. Family members include a son, Hayden L. Bradley of Pittsfield; two daughters, Margaret Jean Cantwell and her husband Bruce of East Longmeadow and Carolyn Gagne and her husband Roland of Essex Junction, Vt.; a step-daughter, Mary Elizabeth Feld of Agawam; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and several close nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, July 17, at 11 a.m., at Hafey East Longmeadow Chapels, 120 Shaker Road. Burial will be private. Nicholas Bryan Bishop STRATFORD -- Nicholas “Nick” Bryan Bishop, eight, died on July 18, 2004 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon after many days of battle with injuries received during an ATV accident on July 10. He was born on July 24, 1995 in Lancaster, the son of Scott Bishop and Cinda Wentworth. Nick was a student at Stratford School, where he recently completed third grade. He attended the Assembly of God Church in Lancaster. Nick was an avid ATV racer, a member of the New England Dirt Track Series, American Motor Cross Association and the New England All Terrain Vehicle Racers’ Association. Most recently he raced for Team Moose, a national apparel and racing equipment manufacturer. Nick was also an avid hunter and got his first turkey during this year’s youth hunting day. He also enjoyed fishing with his buddy Gary, playing his Play Station and any activity that involved his friends. Nick’s life will live through others via organ donation. The family includes his parents, Scott Bishop and Cinda Wentworth of Stratford; two sisters, Chelsea Bishop and Brooke Bishop of Stratford; maternal grandparents, Clark and Judith Wentworth of Stark, and paternal grandmother, Nancy Bishop of Stratford; two great-grandmothers, Beatrice Tuttle and Lucille Wentworth of Stark; several aunts, uncles and cousins. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 21 (today) from Noon to 4 p.m., and 7-9 p.m. at Main-Armstrong Funeral Home, 59 State Street in Groveton. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 22 at the Assembly of God Church in Lancaster, with the Rev. James Michaels officiating. Burial will follow at Center Stratford Cemetery. Donovan, 80, died Wednesday morning, July 7, 2004, at his residence in Davie. Mr. Donovan was born in Orono, Maine, on April 27, 1924, a son of Zean and Lydia Pearl (Scott) Donovan. He was raised in Northumberland and attended Groveton schools. In 1946 he married Barbara Beaton and for many years they resided in Lancaster. During that time he was employed with Marshall Bros. Dairy, the Connecticut Valley Dairy, and King Cole Foods. In 1979 they moved to Florida. Dancing and bowling brought him much enjoyment. Family members include his wife Barbara of Davie; a daughter, Theresa Donovan of Davie, Fla.; four brothers, Richard Donovan of Sun City, Ariz., Lincoln Donovan of Hobe Sound Fla., James Donovan of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Douglas Donovan of Ocala, Fla; three sisters, Arlene Donovan and Frieda Beaton both of Tucson, Ariz., and Verna Moulton of Franklin. Two brothers, Stewart Donovan and Manford Donovan, and two sisters, Nancy Morrison and Phyllis Hartshorn died previously. Funeral services were held at the convenience of the family at Summer Street Cemetery, Lancaster. Arrangements were under the direction of the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. Raymond A. Henry WHITEFIELD -- Raymond A. Henry, 85, formerly of Ridgeview Terrace in Dalton, died on Sunday afternoon, July 18, 2004, at the Morrison Nursing Home, Whitefield. Mr. Henry was born in Columbus, Ohio on October 19, 1918, the son of Perry Andrew and Mabel Eloise (West) Henry. Mr. Henry was raised in Gates Mill, Ohio, and then went on to serve seven years with the Army during WWII. He later moved to Freeport, N.Y., where he was a longtime resident and was employed with the Freeport school system for many years. In 1980 he moved to Whitefield. He was the husband of Lillian Hazel (Wright) Henry who died on August 16, 2003. Family members include a daughter, Linda Reinhart of Londonderry; two sons, Raymond A. Henry Jr. of Whitefield, and Gary Henry of Spokane, Wash.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday morning, July 21, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A graveside service in Park Street Cemetery, Whitefield, will follow directly after the visiting hours. Military honors will also be conducted at that time.
