Rose Chessman Artist, massage therapist WORCESTER, Vt. -- Rose Marie Chessman, 39, of Elmore Road in Worcester died on Saturday, July 24, 2004. She was born on December 23, 1964, in Reno, Nev., the daughter of Frank Nelson and Soo Boon (Kim) Chessman of Concord, N.H. Rose is the mother of Flora-sae Kim Chessman-Chaplin, and partner of Daniel A. Chaplin, both of Worcester, Vt. Rose made a decision to be baptized at the age of six in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and re-affirmed her faith in 1984. She was a 1982 graduate of Groveton (N.H.) High School, and attended Berkeley School of Music in Boston. Rose was a lifelong artist, graduating from Goddard College in 1996 with a bachelor of arts degree. A member of the American Massage Therapy Association, Rose had a practice that specialized in pre- and post-natal massage in Montpelier and North Central Vermont, taught yoga with the elderly at, among other places, the Montpelier Senior Center, and most recently worked as an administrative assistant for the Vermont Trial Lawyers Association. Besides her parents, daughter, and partner, she is survived by her sister, Gloria J. Schaefer of Honolulu, Hawaii, and brothers John D. Chessman of Guildhall, Vt., Philip N. Chessman of Concord, N.H., and Daniel J. Chessman of Clarksville, Tenn. An open memorial service was held on Saturday, July 31, at 12:30 p.m. at the Doty School playground in Worcester Village on the Calais Road. A memorial fund is being set up in honor of Rose's life. Dimick Air Force veteran EAST MONTPELIER, Vt. -- George Fredrick Dimick, 63, of East Montpelier died on Dec. 16, 2003. He was born on Dec. 23, 1939 in Lancaster, N.H., the son of Doris (Fitch) and Fredrick Dimick. He was a 1958 graduate of Gorham High School and served in the Air Force from 1958 to 1962. Family members include two sons, Scott of Gorham, Me., and Troy of Thornton, N.H.; a brother, Donald of Osprey, Fla.; a sister, Harriette O'Brien of Fort Meyers, Fla.; four grandchildren, Hannah and Alden Dimick and Kyle and Kayla Dimick; and several nieces and nephews. His parents and a brother, Paul, died previously. A memorial service will be held on Aug. 7, 2004 at 10 a.m., at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Groveton, N.H., with Fr. Brendan Whittaker officiating. Burial will follow at the Northumberland Cemetery, Groveton. Mark Edson Hamlin Worked for Brown Company GORHAM -- Mark Edson Hamlin, 89, of Lilac Lane, and formerly of 300 Hillside Avenue, Berlin, passed away on Friday July 30, 2004 after a brief illness. He was born in Milan, on October 6, 1914, the son of William B. and Clara (Rich) Hamlin. Mark's father was a logger, storekeeper and assistant postmaster in Milan. Mark was graduated from Gould Academy, Bethel, Me., and cum laude from Bowdoin College, Brunswick, Me., in 1938. He also attended Boston University Law School. Mark started his career in his father's grain store and then spent 37 years with the Brown Company and finished his career with Brown as assistant woods manager. In his professional career, he became a registered professional forester and was elected to honorary life membership in the Northeastern Loggers Association. In 1981, Mark received their Outstanding Service to the Forest Industry Award. He served as a trustee for the Society for the Protection of NH Forests and he was a member of the Board of Registration for Professional Foresters. His community service included Berlin police commissioner, president of the Berlin Economic Development Council and a director of the Berlin City Bank for 17 years. Mark enjoyed golfing, baseball, traveling and spending time with family. He loved socializing with friends and visiting those homebound. He was a member of the UCC Congregational Church in Berlin. Mark' wife of 59 years, Audrey (Brann) Hamlin died previously. His family includes his sons, Bruce of Falmouth, Me., Robert of Camano Island, Wash., and his daughter Tracey Hamlin-Landry of Kingston. Mark had eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday August 4 (today) at 1:30 p.m. at the UCC Congregational Church, 921 Main Street, Berlin. Interment will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Milan. Wheeler Lancaster Academy graduate SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Winifred C. (Willson) Wheeler, 84, died at Baystate Medical Center on Wednesday, July 14, 2004. Born in Londonderry, Vt. on June 2, 1920, she was the daughter of the late John and Annette (Walker) Willson. Winifred was a graduate of Lancaster Academy in Lancaster. She was employed as a nurse's aid for the former Wesson Memorial Hospital. Family members include one son, Bernard Colby of Hyde Park; three stepsons, Stephen B. Wheeler of Costa Mesa, Calif., Christopher R. Wheeler of Lancaster, N.H., and Mark E. Wheeler of Twin Falls, Id.; three daughters, Judith Colby of Albuquerque, N.M., Diane Smith of Hollister, Mo. and Camilla Bourbeau of Springfield; one brother, Dennis Willson of Dover; and six grandchildren. Her husband, Robert K. Wheeler, died previously. A memorial wake was held on Friday, July 16 at the Sampson Funeral Home in Springfield, with a memorial service following at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice. Committal Lillian Monks NEWARK, Del. -- Lillian Collins Monks died on Jan. 3, 2004 in Newark, Del., following a long illness. She was born in Lancaster on Jan. 9, 1922. The family includes her daughters, Virginia Tippitt of Stark and Gail Daigle of Newark, Del.; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 6, at the Summer Street Cemetery in Lancaster. Memorial Service Donald Allen JEFFERSON -- Donald Linn Allen, 77, of Jefferson, died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, June 8, 2004 after a long illness. A Memorial Service will be held at 4 p.m. on August 27 at the North Congregational Church, Main Street, St. Johnsbury, Vt. All friends are welcome.
