Bronson Veteran, known as Mr. Fix-It GROVETON -- Robert "Bob" W. Bronson, 73, of Craggy Road, Groveton, died suddenly on Friday, August 27, 2004 of a heart attack while on vacation with his wife Anne in Nova Scotia. Born on March 16, 1931 in Groveton, the son of Bernard V. and Sarah Luella (Ball) Bronson, he had resided in Groveton all his life except from 1949-1963 when he lived in Lancaster. He was a graduate of Groveton High School class of 1949. Before retiring in 1994, Bob worked for the Groveton Paper Board as a paper maker. Bob was a veteran of the Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a 40-year member of the American Legion Fredonwarell Post # 17, Groveton; he was the present Sergeant at Arms and was a past Post Commander and had been a District Commander for one year. He was a member of the 40 & 8. He worked Bingo at the Legion Hall on Thursday nights. He was also a member of St. Francis Xavier Church and of the Knights of Columbus Council # 2339, 3rd Degree. Bob was always willing to help anyone. If he didn't know how to fix something, he would learn how to; or if he didn't know the answer, he would find it out. He was known as "Mr. Fix-it." He loved to travel and also visit with friends. His family includes his wife of 52 years, Anne (Bernard) Bronson of Groveton; seven children, James (wife Elizabeth) Bronson of Bennington; Janine Bronson of Westfield, Wisc.; Susan (husband Daniel) Ball of Dover; Patricia (husband Alan) Avis of Placerville, Calif.; Karen (husband Wayne) Newton of Groveton; Keith (wife Kim) Bronson of Groveton; and Dennis (wife Donna) Bronson of Somersworth; 12 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; three brothers, Roland Bronson of Bethlehem; Vernard "Butch" Bronson of Jefferson, and Kenneth Bronson of Lancaster; four sisters, Lucille McMann and Catherine Webster, both of Groveton, Bethany Bronson of Stark and Cora Bronson of Littleton; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, September 1 (today) from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Main-Armstrong Funeral Home, 59 State Street, Groveton. The women of the church and the Knights of Columbus will recite the Rosary at 7:15 and the Legion will say prayers at 7:30. A Mass of Christian burial will be said on Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church, 10 State Street, Groveton with Fr. Daniel Deveau, pastor, officiating. Cantin Enjoyed cooking and crocheting MANCHESTER -- Mamie M. (Weart) Cantin, 79, died peacefully on August 19, 2004, surrounded by her loving family at the home of her granddaughter, Karyn Trainor. She was born in Whitefield on July 6, 1925, the daughter of Earl C. Weart and Natalie M. Perkins. Mamie was raised in Passadumkeag, Me. and returned to Whitefield where she married Ralph Z. Dexter in 1947 and resided in their home in Dalton for 23 years. She worked for many years as a certified nurse's aide at many of the local hospitals and nursing homes. She loved to cook and crochet and she was involved with the Eastern Star of Lancaster for many years. The family includes her son, William E. Dexter and wife Denise of Whitefield; a daughter, Gail M. Ball and husband Buddy of Lunenburg, Vt.; a half-brother, Wayne Lufkin and wife Joan of Leominster, Mass.; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Her first husband, Ralph Z. Dexter and two sisters, Frances Wray and Betty Jakubczyk died previously. Her second husband, Leonard F. Cantin of East Haven, Vt., survives her. There will be no calling hours or funeral services, in honor of Mamie's wishes. Judith Catalano Church genealogist TWIN MOUNTAIN -- Judith Irene Catalano, 66, of Twin Mountain and Amherst, died on August 28, 2004 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon after a brief illness. She was born in Dayton, Ohio, the daughter of Ralph and Geraldine A. (Logan) Akers. Mrs. Catalano was graduated from Fairmont High School in Kettering, Ohio, and Wright State University in Fairborn, Ohio. A resident of Twin Mountain for the past couple of years, Mrs. Catalano had previously made her home in Hollis and Londonderry for several years. She was the wife of Jack J. Catalano, whom she married on Sept. 8, 1956. The couple would have celebrated their 48th anniversary next week. The family owns and operates the Living Water Camp Grounds in Twin Mountain. Mrs. Catalano had worked as a loan officer at the former First Federal Savings Bank on Main Street in Nashua and then worked as office manager for her son-in-law, W. Bruce Houghton, DMD, FAGD in Nashua. An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Mrs. Catalano served as president of the local church youth organization, as a Temple worker at the LDS Temple in Belmont, Mass., and as church genealogist. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and enjoyed flower arranging. Besides her husband, the family includes a son, Mark G. Catalano of Hollis; a daughter, Stephany C. Houghton of Amherst; and eight grandchildren. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 1 (today) from 6-9 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 110 Concord St., Nashua. Dennis Cornish Vietnam veteran, stock car racer GORHAM -- Dennis R. Cornish Sr., 56, of 86 Jimtown Road, died on Saturday, August 28, 2004, at Weeks Medical Center, following a motorcycle accident in Jefferson. Born in Rumford, Me. on June 26, 1948, he was the son of Raymond E. and Rita (Austin) Cornish. He was a veteran of the Marine Corps, having served in Vietnam. He was employed by the Fraser Paper Co. Dennis was a member of VFW Post 10675 in Whitefield and president of the Millsfield Club. He was an avid stock car and NASCAR fan and raced in Groveton for 11 years. Beside his parents, he is survived by his wife, Faye (Tardif) Cornish; two sons, Dennis Cornish Jr. and his wife, Amy of Milan and Eric Cornish of Gorham; two sisters, Linda Moriarty and her companion, Kevin Kohlstrom of Hubbardston, Mass. and Donna Cornish of Rumford, Me.; three grandchildren, Riley, Noah and Austin Cornish; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services with military honors will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 2, at the Fleury-Patry Funeral Home, 33 Exchange St., Gorham, with the Rev. John Howry officiating. Tom Corridan Photographer, storyteller, outdoorsman LANCASTER -- Tom Corridan, 55, of 22 Winter Street, died on August 26, 2004 of esophageal cancer at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, surrounded by his family and special friends. Tom was born in New York City on July 2, 1949, the son of the late Thomas and Pearl Corridan. He grew up in Stuyvesant Town, New York City. He was a standout quarterback for Brooklyn Prep High School and was proud of becoming an Eagle Scout. Tom majored in English while attending the University of Dayton. In 1971, Tom married Anne Burke, who was also raised in Stuyvesant Town. Together they had four daughters. Before moving to Lancaster in 1989, they lived in New York City and New Fairfield, Conn. Tom left behind the traffic of New York City when he transferred from New York Telephone to New England Telephone's Lancaster garage. He happily retired from Verizon in June 2003 after 23 years of service. An avid photographer, his work includes a collection of beautiful photographs of the White Mountains and many moose. He transformed his hobby into a profession when he and Anne operated Corridan Photography in the 1990s. Tom became a member of the 4,000 Footer Club on September 30, 2000 when he reached the peaks of North and Middle Tripyramid with his daughter, Kara. His other outdoor interests included canoeing, kayaking, snowshoeing and walking his black lab Clancy. A life-long music enthusiast, Tom attended the Woodstock Music Festival and many concerts of the Rolling Stones and The Doors with Anne. Tom's family and friends remember him as a colorful storyteller and a master of hyperbole and sarcasm. He never missed an opportunity to quote from "Seinfeld" and always rooted for the sports team that was winning. Along with his wife of 33 years, Anne, Tom's family members include his four daughters, Kara and her husband Kerry Carroll of Springfield, N. J., Meghan and her boyfriend Rob Reinhardt of New York City, Katie of New York City and Molly and her fiancˇ Steve Fast of Beverly Hills, Calif.; his sister, Susan Lescher; his brother, Kevin Corridan; his in-laws Frank and Marian Burke; and his entire extended family which included sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. A celebration of Tom's life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 19, at Dayspring, Cathedral Road, in Lancaster. JOHNSBURY, Vt. -- Margaret H. Fortin, 84, formerly of St. Johnsbury, died on August 26, 2004 at Eliot Hospital in Manchester after a brief, acute illness. She was born on November 11, 1919 in Bloomfield, Vt., the daughter of Daniel and Phoebe (Bergeron) Daley. She was raised in Bloomfield and was a graduate of North Stratford (N.H.) High School. Mrs. Fortin was a graduate of Brightlook Hospital School of Nursing in St. Johnsbury. She was employed as the director of nursing at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury prior to her retirement in 1986. She was a lifelong resident of the St. Johnsbury area and wintered in Holly Hill, Fla. The family includes three daughters, Marsha Currie of Littleton, N.H., Susan Bellish of Daytona, Fla. and Sheila LaBar of Port Orange, Fla.; five grandchildren, Heather Richards of North Andover, Mass., Michael Richards of Franconia, N.H., Joseph Bellish of South Daytona, Fla. and Aaron LaBar and Jordan LaBar of Port Orange, Fla.; one brother, Donald Daley of St. Johnsbury, Vt.; three sisters, Norma Toussaint of St. Johnsbury, June Buskey of Portland, Me. and Ruby Bolduc of Holly Hill, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Blanche Marko of Concord, Vt.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Golden, 86, of Dalton died peacefully on Wednesday evening, August 25, 2004 at Littleton Regional Hospital, surrounded by his family. Mr. Golden was born in Manchester, the son of Charles and Helen Golden. The family moved to Nashua, where he attended school, graduating from Nashua High School. His interest in airplanes shaped his career with Boeing Aircraft in Seattle, Wash., and Republic Aircraft on Long Island, N.Y. He returned to Nashua, joining Sanders Associates, and retired from there. During his retirement he worked as a proofreader at the Democrat for several years during the 1990s. Other interests included woodworking, golf, tennis and music. Mr. Golden was a juried member of the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen, and supporter of symphonic and band organizations, at both the adult and youth levels. He was also a choir member and Sunday school teacher. The family includes his wife, Pauline J. Golden of Dalton; two sons, Stuart C. Golden of Philadelphia, Penn. and Curtis L. Golden of Marlborough; a daughter, Patricia A. O'Connor of Boston, Mass.; two sisters, Miriam Durgin of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and Alma Phelan of West Hartford, Conn.; and four grandchildren. Friends were invited to attend a graveside service at Edgewood Cemetery in Nashua on Saturday, August 28. Phillip Landry World War II veteran, millwright DALTON -- Phillip Landry, 84, of Dalton died early on Thursday morning, August 26, 2004 at Harris Hill Center in Concord, following a lengthy illness. He was born on January 11, 1920 in Dalton, the son of Joseph and Rose (Pelotte) Landry. He remained a lifelong resident of Dalton except for the four-and-a-half years he spent in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Mr. Landry was employed as a millwright for 45 years by Gilman Paper Company and Georgia Pacific Corp. in Gilman, Vt. After retiring from the paper industry, he worked as a groundskeeper at Lancaster Fairgrounds. He was a member of the VFW in Lancaster and the American Legion in Pembroke. The family includes his wife of nearly 60 years, Olivine (Maurais) Landry; a son, Col. Robert Landry, USA Ret. of Laconia; a daughter, Linda Beaudoin of Pembroke; a sister, Emily Matthew of Dalton; two grandchildren, Josh Landry of Gilmanton and Amanda Beaudoin of Pembroke; and two great-grandchildren, Ramsey and Alexander of Gilmanton. Kenneth Alvah White Former Gilman resident HARTFORD, Conn. -- Kenneth Alvah White, 70, of Tolland, Conn., died on Monday, August 30, 2004 at Manchester Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy (Murzyn) White for nearly 52 years. Mr. White was born in Hartford, the son of Edna (La Doux) Perkins and the late Gilford White. He attended Hartford High School and was a resident of Coventry for many years before moving to Tolland 27 years ago. He was also a resident of Gilman, Vt. He most recently worked for Bradco Supply Company, retiring in 1997. He loved to bowl, play golf, fish and spend time with his family, and also enjoyed his time at Foxwoods. Whenever anyone asked for his help, he never said no. He was a kind, loving, selfless husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend. He was the core of his family, both immediate and extended. He was a man of honesty and integrity. In addition to his wife, family members include three daughters, Anita Reeder of Southborough, Mass., Karen Greenleaf of Claremont and Doreen Conrad of Bolton, Conn.; a son, Kenneth A. White of Manchester, Conn.; three sons-in-law, Robert Reeder, Garland Conrad and Arnie Greenleaf; a daughter-in-law, Heide White; his mother, Edna Perkins; his mother-in-law, Irene Murzyne; two sisters, Shirley Bigelow and Janice Schoen; three granddaughters, Renee Bellavance, Kate Reeder and Stephanie Reeder; two grandsons, Michael White and Stephen White; and many nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Joseph White and Arthur Bruneau and a granddaughter, Kayleigh Van Brocklin, died previously.
