Roger Leo "Joe" Arsenault Former North Stratford resident Sherbrooke, P.Q., Canada -- Roger Leo "Joe" Arsenault, 65, of McManamy Ave., Sherbrooke, died on Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004 after a lengthy illness. Born on March 3, 1939 in Bridgeport, Conn., a son of Levi and Emilia (Morin) Arsenault, he had been a resident of Sherbrooke for 27 years. Before moving to Sherbrooke, he lived in North Stratford for eight years. Before retiring, Roger was a warehouse man for Jenkin Valves. He attended the Baptist Church in Lenoxville, P.Q. He was a former member of the horseshoe league in Sherbrooke. The family includes his wife, Jeannine Arsenault of Sherbrooke; eight children, Roger Arsenault Jr., of Bridgeport, Conn. and Jeffrey Arsenault of Huntington, Conn.; Luc Forest, Marc Forest, Steve Forest, Josiee Forest, Denis Forest and Agnes Forest, all of Sherbrooke; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his father, Levi of Stratford; one sister, Lorraine Potter of Stratford; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. His mother, Emilia and his brother, Raymond died previously, both in 1997. Calling hours in New Hampshire were held on Thursday, Oct. 7 at the Main-Armstrong Funeral Home in Groveton. Ethel Barrett Operated Grandma's Kitchen WHITEFIELD -- Ethel Barrett, 72, of 185 Lancaster Road, died peacefully at her residence, surrounded by family, on Sunday, Oct. 10, following a long illness. She was born in Cambridge, Mass., the daughter of John and Ethel (Roche) Gantley. Mrs. Barrett grew up and lived in the Cambridge-Saugus area prior to moving to Whitefield 20 years ago. She operated Grandma's Kitchen Restaurant in Whitefield for many years, before her retirement. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary of Saugus, Mass. The family includes four sons, Paul MacDonald of Dudley, Mass., Gerald MacDonald of Concord, Richard MacDonald of Medford, Mass. and James Barrett of Whitefield; two daughters, Linda Streeter of Whitefield and Sandra Heath of Saugus, Mass.; 20 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Rose Bohannon of Medford, Mass. Her husband, James and a son, Raymond died previously. Friends were invited to call at the Ross Funeral Home, Whitefield Chapel on Tuesday evening; Massachusetts friends are invited to call at the George L, Doherty Funeral Home in Somerville, Mass. on Wednesday evening, Oct. 13, from 5-8 PM. Dubie, 79, of Cottage Street, died on Wednesday morning, Oct. 6, 2004, at the Country Village Health Care Center, Lancaster. He was born in Turner Falls, Mass., on Nov. 19, 1924, the son of William and Mae (Alex) Dubie. A long time resident of Mass., Raymond attended local schools there and was a graduate of Becker College in Worcester. For many years he was a specialist photographer and owned and operated Ray Dubie Studios in Athol, Mass. He later moved to San Diego, Calif., where he operated his own hearing aid business in Escondido, Calif. During World War II he served with the Navy. Raymond also had many interests during his life that included outdoor activities such as skiing and boating. He was also a private pilot. For the past 13 years he had resided in Littleton. Family members include a daughter, Linda Rae Allie and her husband Richard of Silverthorne, Colo.; two sons, Steven Craig Dubie of Frisco, Colo. and Robert Allen Dubie of Escondido, Calif.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. There were no visiting hours. A memorial service was held on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 9, at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. Rev. Raymond Ball, pastor of All Saints Church, Lancaster, officiated. Hailey Rae Grimard Infant daughter LANCASTER -- Hailey Rae Grimard, infant daughter of Paul David Grimard and Amanda Ariel Rainault, died on Monday evening, Oct. 4, 2004 at Weeks Medical Center, following her birth. Family members include her parents of Lancaster; paternal grandfather, Michael Grimard Sr. of Whitefield; two paternal uncles, Michael Grimard Jr. of Whitefield and Ed Grimard of Littleton; her maternal grandfather, Gilbert Rainault of Guildhall; three maternal uncles, Jason Rainault and Ben Rainault both of Colebrook and Travis Rainault of Berlin; two maternal aunts, Angel Rainault of Orleans, Vt., and Amanda Kelly Rainault of Portsmouth. Her maternal grandmother Ruby Rainault died in 2003. Visiting hours were held Saturday, Oct. 9 at the Bailey Funeral Home. A funeral service was held immediately after visiting hours. Loretta Melanson Enjoyed singing BERLIN -- Loretta (Facchini) Melanson, 92, of Cošs County Nursing Home and formerly of 69 Labossiere St., died on Oct. 6, 2004, at Androscoggin Valley Hospital. Born on Aug. 30, 1912 in Cascade, she was the daughter of Georgianna (Bernier) and Antonio Facchini. Except for brief periods when she lived in East Boston, Mass. and Portland, Me., she lived in Berlin, where she had attended local schools. Mrs. Melanson enjoyed music and will be remembered for her beautiful singing voice. She was an avid bowler in her early years. She also enjoyed playing bingo and watching old Lucille Ball reruns. In her later years, she enjoyed oil painting. She was a member of St. Kieran Church, now known as Good Shepherd Parish. She was a member of the St. Kieran's Altar Guild. For many years, she sang in the St. Kieran's choir and with the Merrymakers. The family includes two daughters, Jeannette Mullen of Berlin and Theresa Palmer of Mechanicsville, Md.; a son, Edgar Melanson Jr. of Hampton and Maidstone Lake, Vt.; a granddaughter; six grandsons; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Grace Frabizio of Manchester; and several nieces. Her husband, Edgar Melanson Sr. died in 1976. Calling hours were held on Friday, Oct. 8 at Bryant Funeral Home in Berlin. A Mass of Christian burial was held on Saturday at St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish, Berlin. Burial followed in St. Kieran Cemetery, Berlin. Margaret F. Nichols Devoted to her teaching career LANCASTER -- Margaret F. Nichols, 86, formerly of Milan, died on Friday morning, Oct. 8, 2004 at her daughter's home on Second Street. Mrs. Nichols was born in Milan on July 9, 1918, the daughter of Lloyd E. and Edna (Deering) Fogg. She resided most of her life in Milan. She attended Plymouth Normal School, where she acquired a degree in teaching. Her teaching career included seven years at the Crystal School in Stark and one year in Groveton. For 27 years she taught in Milan Schools and served as principal for seven of those years. After her retirement she continued on as a volunteer in the Milan School. Her hobbies included crossword puzzles, crocheting, and tending her flower gardens. She was a member of the West Milan United Methodist Church, the Retired Teachers Assn. and the Pilot Grange in Stark. Family members include a son, Ronald S. Nichols of Andover, N.Y.; a daughter, Lorna M. Frenette of Lancaster; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours were held on Sunday evening, Oct. 10 at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A funeral service was held at the funeral home on Monday morning. The Rev. Dean A. Stiles, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Berlin, officiated. Burial followed in the Riverside Cemetery, West Milan. Arline M. Sanborn Devoted to family, active in community GROVETON -- Arline M. "Gram" (Emery) Sanborn, 83, of Brown Road, Groveton, died on Sunday, Oct. 3, 2004 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, after a lengthy illness. She was born on Nov. 7, 1920 in Groveton, the daughter of James L. and Margaret (McMahon) Emery. Mrs. Sanborn was a lifelong resident of Groveton. She was a graduate of Groveton High School, class of 1937. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church, the Daughters of Isabella, the American Legion Post #17 Auxiliary and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Groveton Fire Department. She used to work on the town checklist. Mrs. Sanborn loved to cook, spend time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was very active in community service. Over the years she worked for Hinkley & Donovan, Attorneys at Law, Ryan Fuels, and Groveton Paper Company, doing secretarial work. The family includes four sons, William "Bill" Sanborn and his fiancŽe, Linda Laverty, Stephen Sanborn and his wife, Debra, Craig Sanborn and his wife, Lori, all of Maidstone Lake, Vt., and James "Jim" Sanborn and his wife Harriet of Groveton; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Stanley "Joe" Emery of Groveton and Hollis Emery of Essex Junction, Vt.; one sister, Jane Durnan of Exeter; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Her husband, C. Dean Sanborn died on Oct. 3, 1994. Calling hours were held on Wednesday, Oct. 6 at the Main-Armstrong Funeral Home in Groveton. The women of the church recited the Rosary in the evening and the Legion Auxiliary said prayers immediately after. A Mass of Christian burial was held on Thursday, Oct. 7 at St. Francis Xavier Church in Groveton, with Fr. Daniel Deveau, pastor, officiating. Burial followed at the St. Francis Cemetery.
