Cantin Born in Lancaster SUTTON, Vt. -- Lynn A. Cantin of Sutton died on Thursday evening, Oct. 14, 2004. She was born in Lancaster on July 10, 1962, a daughter of Leonard and Shirley (Crapo) Cantin. Lynn was a graduate of Lyndon Institute and attended Lyndon State College. The family includes four children, Christina Young, Lillian Young, Lisa Young and John Pormann III; one grandson, Paul William Dunbar; her father, Leonard of East Haven, Conn.; her mother, Shirley of Connecticut; three sisters, Pauline Harris of Lyndonville, Vt., Kim Bedor of St. Johnsbury, Vt. and Cheryl Plonka-Cann of Germany; nieces and nephews. Visiting hours were held at the Guibord Funeral Home in Lyndonville on Tuesday evening. A service of Christian burial at 11 a.m. will be led by Deacon Al Toborg on Wednesday, Oct. 20 (today) at St. Elizabeth Church. Burial will follow at St. Elizabeth Cemetery. Gooch Sr. Owned HillŐs Department Store COLEBROOK -- Robert W. Gooch Sr., 80, died on Friday, Oct. 15, 2004 at Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital. Born on August 31, 1924 in North Brookfield, Mass., he was the son of the Rev. William S. and Marion (Tobey) Gooch. He was graduated from Peterborough High School in 1942 and joined the Navy, where he served in the Pacific theater. After the war, he was discharged as a lieutenant j.g. He was graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1948. Mr. Gooch purchased HillŐs Department Store in 1965 and ran it until 1990. He was an auctioneer and had helped run the North Country Auction Service. He was a member of the Colebrook Fire Department from 1959 to 1984, serving as chief from 1976 to 1984. He was a director of First Colebrook Bank since 1972. He also held positions as the bankŐs vice president, president and vice chairman of the board of directors. He was chairman of First Colebrook Bancorp since July 2001. He was a founder of Colebrook Development Corp. Mr. Gooch had been assistant town moderator for Colebrook, a planning board member, a school board member, and commissioner of the water and sewer department. He was a longtime Colebrook Historical Society member. He worshipped at Colebrook Congregational Church. The family includes his wife of 53 years, Ellie (Currier) Gooch of Colebrook; two sons, George Gooch of Colebrook and Robert Gooch Jr. of Columbia; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. There were no calling hours. A memorial service was held on Sunday at Monadnock Congregational Church in Colebrook with Pastor Rebecca Larson officiating, assisted by the Rev. Oliver Northcott and the Rev. Albert Bellefeuille. Burial was private. Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook handled arrangements. Michelle C. Haynes NORTH STRATFORD -- Mrs. Michelle C. Haynes, 51, of North Stratford, passed away suddenly at her home on Friday, Oct. 15, 2004. Mrs. Haynes was born June 30, 1953, in St. Malo, P.Q., Canada, daughter of the late Denis and Rose (Fontaine) Crete. Mrs. Haynes graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1972. She worked for a short period of time at Beecher Falls Division of Ethan Allen and also served her country in the Army Reserve. She graduated from Hesser College with an associateŐs degree in paralegal studies and worked for Judge Cobb. She was employed as a bookkeeper for Nugent Oil Company for 14 years and also stayed at home for a period of time raising her daughter, Tiffany. Recently, she worked in the kitchen at the Stratford High School. She was a very active and dedicated parishioner for Sacred Heart Catholic Church in North Stratford and was involved in numerous town and school activities. She enjoyed crocheting and baking and will be forever remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister and friend. Mrs. Haynes is survived by her husband, Paul Haynes of North Stratford; her daughter, Tiffany Haynes of North Stratford; a brother, Gaetan Crete of Colebrook; three sisters: Gynette Bouchard of Goffstown, Priscilla Lambert of West Stewartstown, and Monique Crete of Goffstown; her husbandŐs parents, Elwood and Beatrice Haynes of North Stratford; a brother-in-law, Larry Haynes of Weare; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours were held on Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Jenkins Funeral Home in Colebrook. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, Oct. 18th at 11 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in North Stratford with The Reverend Daniel Deveau as celebrant. An interment service followed at the Colebrook Village Cemetery. Sylvia Tilton Rogers Littleton High School grad NEW CUYAMA, Calif.--Sylvia May Tilton Rogers, 62, of New Cuyama, Calif., died on Sept. 2, 2004, at Marian Medical Center, Santa Maria, Calif., from cancer. She was born on May 16, 1942, in West Stewartstown, to Earl and Harriet Tilton. She grew up in Littleton and was graduated from Littleton High School in 1960. Her classmates remember her for contributing her artistic talents to the winter carnivals, proms and floats. During her last visit to her Littleton home in July 2003, she greatly enjoyed being with her family and her life-long friends. She also had extended family in the Lancaster-Groveton area. She was a registered tax preparer and notary in the state of California. She served as the New Cuyama Methodist Church organist for the last 15 years. Her varied interests included genealogy, music, reading, painting, and being with her children and grandchildren. Her family includes her mother, Harriet Tilton Eoute of Littleton; her husband, David Rogers of New Cuyama, Calif.; a daughter, Sonia Morang Vanous of Orlando, Fla.; three sons, Kenneth Morang Jr., Bradley Morang, and David Russell, all of California; four grandchildren of California; three brothers, Larry Tilton of North Attleboro, Mass.; Robert Tilton of Long Island, N.Y.; Earl Tilton Jr. of Littleton; a sister, Nancy Tilton Spencer of Littleton; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Her father, Earl R. Tilton Sr., and her sisters Earlene Tilton and Lorraine Tilton Henderson died previously. A memorial service was held on Sept. 8, at New Cuyama Methodist Church. An inurnment service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 23, at 3 p.m., at Glenwood Cemetery in Littleton with the Rev. Stephen Bascom of First United Methodist Church of Littleton officiating. A reception for family and friends will be held at the home of Harriet Tilton Eoute following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to New Cuyama Methodist Church, 4807 Caliente Avenue, New Cuyama, CA 93254. Evangeline F. Sullivan Born in Lancaster GROVETON -- Evangeline F. Sullivan, 82, died peacefully at her home on Central Avenue, on Thursday morning, Oct. 14, 2004, after a long illness. Mrs. Sullivan was born in Canada on Jan. 23, 1922, the daughter of Idola and Noellie (St. Pierre) Belleville. Evangeline enjoyed spending winters in Florida with her late husband Mike Sullivan. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, she also enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing golf and bingo. Mike died previously in 1999. Family members include a son, Roger Brousseau of Canaan, Vt.; three daughters, Diane Glidden of Center Barnstead, Shirley Berube of Groveton, and Martha Philbrick of Epsom; three sisters, Marcelle Belanger of Newmarket, Ontario, Lise Lizzie of Berlin, Jeannine Belleville of Deauville, Quebec; eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Her three brothers, Vincent Belleville, Fermin Belleville, and Gilbert Belleville died previoulsy. At EvangelineŐs request there were no calling hours. A memorial mass was held on Monday morning, Oct. 18, at 11 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church, Groveton. Reverend Craig Cheney officiated. Burial followed in Northumberland Cemetery, Groveton.
