Calderon Taught Spanish at Weeks Memorial Hospital LANCASTER -- Kathleen L. Calderon, 81, of Robin Lane, died suddenly at her home on Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2004. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on May 5, 1923, the daughter of Julio and Maria (RŸhnner) Cerra. Kathleen was known by many as a Spanish teacher. She was a former resident of Westport, Conn. and San Juan, Puerto Rico, where she taught for many years. She had resided in Lancaster for 15 years and taught Spanish at Weeks Memorial Library. She was a member of the Lancaster Congregational United Church of Christ and president of the Unity Club. She was also an honorary member of the Phi Beta Gamma teachers' sorority. Family members include her husband, Carlos M. Calderon Sr. of Lancaster; a daughter, Elsa Calderon and her husband Paul Thomas of New Haven, Conn.; a granddaughter, Katie; a sister, Maria Tishman of N.J.; nieces and nephews. Her son, Carlos M. Calderon Jr. died on Nov. 27, 2003. A sister, Elsa Vebell also died previously. There were no visiting hours. A memorial service was held on Saturday morning, Oct. 30 at the Lancaster Congregational United Church of Christ. The Rev. Merton Rymph of Lisbon officiated. Arrangements were under the direction of the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. Virginia E. (Cantin) Caron Enjoyed family and friends SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Virginia E. (Cantin) Caron, 86, of Agawam, Mass. died on Sunday evening, Oct. 31, 2004, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield. Mrs. Caron was born the oldest of nine children in Guildhall, Vt. on Nov. 10, 1917, the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Hardy) Cantin. Virginia was raised in Guildhall where she attended local schools and was a graduate of Lancaster Academy. She married a mechanic/heavy equipment operator and had five children. From early morning until late night she worked as a registered nurse at Brightlook Hospital in St. Johnsbury, Vt. and Springfield Hospital in Springfield, Mass., to help feed, clothe and care for her brood. For a time she was also employed at the Kent Nursing Home in Lancaster. She endured plenty of life's ups and downs and witnessed so many of the big events of modern history that she became a living, breathing historian for her family and friends. Nowhere was there a sweeter, kinder matriarch. Mrs. Caron always acknowledged a birthday or event with a card or a call; she kept track of births and weddings as the family grew to the hundreds. She was a communicant of All Saints Church, Lancaster and St. John the Evangelist, Agawam. Family members include three sons, George H. Caron of Tannersville, Penn., Donald F. Caron of Monroe and Douglas E. Caron of West Springfield; two daughters, Janet A. Seymour of Springfield and Luanne M. Caron of Agawam; three brothers, Harland Cantin of Guildhall, Vt., Leonard Cantin of East Haven, Vt., and Wallace Baker of Lancaster; a sister, Josephine Ball of Gilman, Vt.; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Her husband, Ralph W. Caron, three brothers, William Cantin, Philip Cantin and Arnold Cantin and a sister, Madeline Rosebrook died previously. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday afternoon and evening, Nov. 4, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday morning at 10 a.m. at All Saints Church, Lancaster, N.H. Rev. Raymond Ball, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Lancaster, N.H. Roger E. Covill World War II Veteran COLEBROOK -- Roger E. Covill, 83, died on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004 at Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital. He was born on May 13, 1921 in Pittsburg, the son of Everett and Birdie Covill. Mr. Covill grew up on Happy Corner in Pittsburg and after graduating from Pittsburg High School, was employed as an apprentice for General Electric in Lynn, Mass. He served in the Navy during World War II, and after his honorable discharge returned to GE where he worked as a turbine field engineer, primarily in the New England District. He lived in Newburyport, Mass. for many years and then moved to West Newbury, Mass. Following his retirement from GE, he lived in Moultonborough and recently moved to Colebrook. Mr. Covill enjoyed snowmobiling and woodworking. The family includes two sons, Rick R. Covill of Grantham and Randy J. Covill of Atkinson; and two grandchildren. His wife, Belle J. Covill died previously. Calling hours were held at Jenkins Funeral Home on Tuesday. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 3 at the funeral home, with an interment service to follow at Pittsburg Hollow Cemetery. Huckins Successful dairy farmer FARMINGTON -- John H. "Jack" Huckins, 70, of Chestnut Hill Road in Farmington, died on Wednesday evening, Oct. 27, 2004, at home. Born on June 12, 1934 in Rochester, the son of John L. and Elise "Anna Belle" (Eaton) Huckins, he was raised in Farmington on the old Huckins Homestead on Meaderboro Road, now known as the Butternut Farm. A graduate of Spaulding High School, Class of 1953, he was also a graduate of Graham Breeding School, Class of 1954. Jack was a farmer most of his life and owned his own trucking business, John H. Huckins Trucking, delivering bulk farm supplies and bark mulch. He had also driven truck for Sprague Oil, Watkins Construction, Allied Van Lines, United Van Lines, United States Postal Service, RPS and Wausau Carriers. In 1980, he moved to Groveton and established a successful dairy farm with national recognition, fulfilling his dream of having a dairy farm on the Connecticut River. While in Groveton he was a member of the Planning Board, Coos ASCS, a member of the Farm Bureau, a former president and vice president of the New England Milking Shorthorn, National Milking Shorthorn, as well as New Hampshire, New England and National Holstein Associations. He was a member and former trustee and active with the bus ministry at True Memorial Baptist Church in Rochester, a former member of the Rochester Grange and a former member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Lancaster. Jack enjoyed woodworking, having built four homes with his wife Gin. He was a hardworking man. Family members include his wife of 50 years, Virginia "Ginny" Anne (Farnum) Huckins of Farmington; two sons, John D. and wife Cheryl Huckins of Rochester and Thomas E. and wife Michelle Huckins of Farmington; seven daughters, Catherine Plante of Farmington, Janet and husband Douglas Small of Farmington, Marcia and husband Gregory Clark of Cornish Flat, Donna and husband William Baker of Somersworth, Brenda and husband Steven Wheeler of Newmarket, Lisa and husband Danny Guay of Groveton and Jennifer and husband Michael Kenison of Jefferson; 22 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Edith Smith of Welborn, Fla. and Priscilla Pomeroy of Spencer, Mass.; also many cousins, nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and one aunt. His daughter, Linda J. Huckins died previously, in 1995. Calling hours were held on Saturday at Peaslee Funeral Home in Farmington. A Funeral was held on Sunday at True Memorial Baptist Church in Rochester, with the Rev. Rick Lamirande, pastor and the Rev. John Scruton co-officiating. Lamoureux Loved sailing GOFFSTOWN -- Raymond Lucien Lamoureux, 52, died on Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004 at his home after a courageous battle with colon cancer. Born on June 22, 1952 in Berlin, he was the son of Lucien and Doris (Potvin) Lamoureux. Raymond was a real estate broker and, along with his friend and business partner Mark, owned RayMar Realty. He graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1974. After graduating, he and his sister Elaine traveled across country to California where he worked as a line manager for a small airline and earned his pilot's license. While in California, he was a managing partner at Carrow's Restaurant and director of marketing at St. Mary's College. In 1985 he moved back to New Hampshire and opened the Partridge House Inn B&B with his other sister Janet and ran ERA Presidential Properties in Twin Mountain. In 1992 he was honored as Realtor of the Year by the North County Board of Realtors. In 1995 he moved to Deerfield and founded Historic Properties. Raymond loved people. He saw everyone as equal, no one person more important than the next. He always recognized the good in everyone and put others' needs before his own. No one had to ask Ray for help. He saw what had to be done and did it. He approached life with fairness, honesty and dignity. He leaves a legacy of love. Two of his great loves (after his one true love, Liz) were sailing and his dog Vinnie. Family members include his wife of 11 years, Liz Lamoureux of Goffstown; two stepsons, Francis Matott of Whitefield and Danny Chum of Lowell, Mass.; one granddaughter; three brothers, the Rev. Paul Lamoureux of Concord, Michael Lamoureux of Rockport, Mass. and David Lamoureux of Virginia Beach, Va.; three sisters, Mary White of Bristol, Vt., Janet Partridge of Franconia and Elaine Botelho of Ventura, Calif.; several nieces, nephews and other close relatives. Memorial donations may be made to the animal shelter of one's choice; St Matthew Episcopal Church in Goffstown; or the Manchester VNA Hospice Association.
