Biron Enjoyed her home and hobbies GORHAM --Marjorie E. (Paschal) Biron, 88, of 95 Jimtown Road, Gorham died on Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 3, 2004 at her home. She was born in Jefferson on March 24, 1916, the daughter of Harry E. and Mary (Brady) Paschal and was a lifelong resident of the Berlin, Gorham and Jefferson area. Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Biron was employed by the St. Louis Hospital and later by the Androscoggin Valley Hospital in Berlin for over 20 years as a dietician. She was a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Berlin. She enjoyed her home, cooking, gardening, knitting and crocheting and loved flowers. Members of the family include her son, Alan Smith of Gorham; two granddaughters, Wendy Stanton of Milan and Janna Downs of Plainfield; five great-grandchildren; a brother, John Paschal of Jefferson; a sister, Wilma Corrigan of Jefferson; nieces, nephews and cousins. Her husband, William A. Biron died in 2000 and her sister, Grace Boles also died previously. Relatives and friends were invited to call at the Bryant Funeral Home, Gorham, on Monday afternoon and evening. Funeral services were held on Tuesday morning, Nov. 9 at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church. Interment followed in the Forest Vale Cemetery in Jefferson. Donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Respite Center, 611 Sullivan Street, Berlin, NH 03570. Elmer E. Eager Lancaster dairy farmer LANCASTER -- Elmer E. Eager, 75, of 60 Stebbins Hill Road, died on Friday, Nov. 5, 2004 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, after a short illness. He was born in Littleton on Nov. 7, 1928, the son of Carl E. and Pearl J. (Dodge) Eager. Mr. Eager ran his own dairy farm on Stebbins Hill in Lancaster for many years. He was a member of the National Holstein Association and the NH Farm Bureau. The family includes his daughter, Cindy A. Marro of Whitefield; several nieces and nephews; and two cousins. Also, special friends Steven Bean, Jennifer Malanson and Cloe and Colt Bean. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. in the Park Street Cemetery in Whitefield. Camille Fregeau GROVETON -- Camille "Pepere" Fregeau, 72, of Dean Brook Drive, Groveton, died unexpectedly on Nov. 9, 2004 at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, Nov. 11 and Friday, Nov. 12 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 each day. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 13 at St. Francis Xavier Church, Groveton. Burial will follow in the Northumberland Cemetery. Grondin World War II Veteran ASHLAND, Me.-- Gaston Paul-Eugene "Gene" Grondin, 87, died on Monday, Oct. 25, 2004 at a Presque Isle, Me. hospital. He was born in Lancaster on July 31, 1917, the son of George and Alice (Dumont) Grondin. He was self employed as a barber in Lancaster for 30 years and then worked for a paper mill. Gaston was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the VFW LeBlanc-Junkins Post 9699 of Ashland. He was also a member of the Ashland Snowmobile Club and the Oxbow Snowmobile Club. The family includes a son, Monte Grondin and his wife Rosalie of Ashland; a daughter, Winnifred Bruce and her husband William of South Carolina; a brother, Gene Maurice Grondin of Bangor, Me.; a sister, Rita Grondin of Lancaster. He will also be missed by a close special friend, Toni Caron of Ashland. His wife, Grace W. (Hodge) Grondin died in 1997. A funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, Oct. 28 at St. Mark Catholic Church, Ashland with the Rev. Michael Hinken, pastor as celebrant. Jean Elie Noel Corporal with Dept. of Corrections RANDOLPH -- Jean Elie Noel, 38, of 9 Dublin Street, died on Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004 as the result of a motorcycle accident. He was born on Jan. 19, 1966 in Lac-Megantic, Canada, the son of Jean B. and Patricia (Flamand) Noel. He was a Corporal with the Department of Corrections for more than five years and a member of S.E.R.T. He volunteered for numerous fundraisers and functions and is described by his co-workers as an excellent officer with a "can-do attitude." The family includes two children, Cody and Brittany Noel of Fryeburg, Me.; his parents of Gorham; three sisters, Odette Voisine of Lancaster, Lucie Noel of Laval, Canada and Renee Noel of St.-Eugene, Canada; five nephews and one niece. Funeral services were held on Nov. 8 at the Fleury-Patry Funeral Home, Berlin. Mildred H. Stewart Longtime Colebrook resident COLEBROOK -- Mildred H. Stewart, 92, died on Monday, Nov. 1, 2004 at Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital. She was born on August 31, 1912 in Colebrook, the daughter of Leroy and Mariette (Hodge) Henson. The family includes two sisters, Pearl Gooley of Newport Center, Vt. and Nellie Henson of Colebrook; one brother, Everette Henson of North Haverhill; several nieces and nephews. Her husband, Robert Stewart died previously. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be in Horse Meadow Cemetery in North Haverhill. A memorial service will be conducted at River of Life Church in Colebrook at a later date. Newman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Geneva (Eastman) Valkenburg Enjoyed family, crafts, volunteering HOUSTON, Tex. -- Geneva "GG" (Eastman) Valkenburg died after a short illness on Oct. 21, 2004, in Houston with her daughter, Cathy at her side. She was born on April 28, 1916 in Jefferson, the first child of Nellie (Nevers) and Manasah P. Eastman. Geneva grew up and was educated in Peterborough. In 1941, she married John "Jack" H. Morris, a soldier from Boston, Mass. They had three daughters and raised them in Mont Vernon. When Jack died of service-related injuries, she moved the girls and herself to Milford and supported them by being a very capable legal secretary. In 1955, she met and married James Van Valkenburg of Mont Vernon. The next four years were a very exciting time for them. They retired and traveled all over the USA and Mexico, ending up in California in 1962, living there until Jim's death in 1985. Geneva moved to Houston in 1997 to live near her daughter, Cathy and her loving and supporting family. She was an excellent cook with a notorious sweet tooth, and no one could make a better dessert than she could. She also loved doing handiwork; all the children and their families have been gifted with at least one of her afghans, as well as her beautiful handmade quilts and crocheted tablecloths. In her later years in Vista she was a valued volunteer at a local hospital, participating in the newborn "Cuddler" program. She also made many little bonnets and booties to keep the infants warm. Family members include two daughters, Cathy Zalocha and her husband Stan of Houston and Mary-Ellen Carmen and her husband Nate of Bethlehem; two stepsons, William Van Valkenburg and his wife Brenda of Vista, Calif. and Jim Van Valkenburg Jr. of Mississippi; a brother, George Eastman and his wife Fern of Peterborough; and a sister, Marilyn E. Walker of La Puente, Calif.; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. 1968 was a sad year when her oldest daughter, Lynne C. Nilsen of Milford died suddenly of lupus. Private services were held at her granddaughter, Gina Sprang and Amanda Alvarez's home in Houston on Oct. 24. A memorial service will be held in New Hampshire at the family's convenience. Memorial donations may be made to the hospice program of one's choice. George P. Ververis Sr. World War II veteran GROVETON -- George P. Ververis Sr., 82, of Groveton, Ledyard, Conn. and Augusta, Ga., died on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004 at Weeks Medical Center, Dartmouth-Hitchcock, Lancaster from respiratory failure. He was born in Norwich, Conn. on May 1, 1922, the son of the late Pantelis and Irene (Papyis) Ververis. Mr. Ververis was a graduate of the Norwich Free Academy, Class of 1940. He was a Naval Air Corps veteran of World War II, stationed in the west of England. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 17 of Groveton, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1005 of Palm Bay, Fla., and the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 6 of Conway. He worked as a plumbing and heating contractor in Norwich, Conn. from 1946 to 1974 and was last self-employed as a plumbing and heating contractor in Groveton. He resided in Groveton for over 30 years. Mr. Ververis was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and the Divine Providence Church of Norwich, Conn. and St. Mark's Episcopal Church of Groveton. In January 1962, he received a Certificate of Meritorious Service from the State of Connecticut Labor Department State Apprenticeship Council for his work in apprentice training. In 1976, he was a co-chairman of the Northumberland American Revolution Bicentennial Commission in Northumberland. In January 1998, after many years as a volunteer on the town recreation committee, he received a citation from the State of New Hampshire Executive Council for his work in the Cans For Kids Program. In 2003, the Town of Groveton erected a plaque in his honor in appreciation for his unselfish help to the children and people of Groveton. He was an avid collector of historic regional photographs of the people and places of New England, the White Mountains and the Great North Woods and donated many of his photographs for community use. He was a volunteer in the Senior Meals Program of Groveton. He was a volunteer in the emergency room of University Hospital of Augusta, Ga. Family members include one son, George P. Ververis Jr. of New York, N.Y.; one brother, Nicholas Ververis of Avon, Conn.; two stepdaughters, Anna Watkins of Brewer, Me. and Bethany Doyon of Groveton; one stepdaughter-in-law, Shirley Sawyer of Groveton; many nieces, nephews and step-grandchildren, who always called him "Pappy." His first wife, Anna A. (Koziol) Ververis of Norwich, Conn. and his second wife, Pauline (Crawford Sawyer) Ververis of Groveton died previously. Four brothers--Thrasivulos "Shivo" Ververis, John Ververis, Kostas Ververis and Peter Ververis, two sisters--Eva Higgins and Antonia Waterman, and a stepson, Richard Sawyer also died previously.
