Deborah Bickford Fun loving; enjoyed camping and fishing COLEBROOK -- Deborah "Debbie" (Hartlen) Bickford, 51, of Carlton Hill Road, Colebrook, died on Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004 at the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital surrounded by her family, following a courageous battle with cancer. Mrs. Bickford was born on April 3, 1953 in West Stewartstown, the daughter of the late Kelsea and Evelyn (Brown) Hartlen. After graduating from high school, Mrs. Bickford lived in Massachusetts for a short period of time and worked in a laundry facility. She returned to the North Country and worked for Tillotson Heath Care where she worked for more than 30 years until her health began to fail. She was a fun loving and playful person who enjoyed a good joke, and having water fights with her family. She also enjoyed fishing and camping and loved her two dogs, Honey and Shadow and her bird, Myrtle. She collected Betty Boop and Smiling Faces, and daffodils and tulips were her favorite flowers. Her courage and fighting spirit were an inspiration to her family and she will be forever remembered as a loving wife, sister, aunt and friend. Members of her family include her husband of 12 years, Eugene Bickford of Colebrook; a brother, Donald Hartlen of Groveton; five sisters, Reona Hartlen, Patricia Clark, Juanita Eastman and Judy Reynolds, all of Colebrook and Michelle Plourde of West Stewartstown; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours were held on Thursday at the Jenkins Funeral Home in Colebrook. A funeral service was conducted on Friday at the Trinity United Methodist Church with The Reverend Alta Chase officiating. An interment service followed at the Colebrook Village Cemetery. Condolences may be offered to the family on-line by going to www.jenkinsfuneralhome.net Ellen Mildred Curtis Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother; care giver and baby lover GROVETON -- Ellen Mildred Curtis, 86, of Groveton, died on Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004 at Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital, with her family by her side. She was born in North Stratford on March 11, 1918, a daughter of Levi O. and Flora M. (Barron) Portigue. Mrs. Curtis worked as a cook at Dinty Moore Diner in Groveton and worked at numerous factories and mills such as Stratford Plywood throughout her years. She devoted many years to raising her granddaughter, Jessie and also a great-granddaughter, Angela. She was a loving caregiver, who always put her family first. Family members include a daughter, Linda Beaton and her husband Bob Jr. of Groveton; three sisters, Melvina Weagle of Groveton, Alice Bigelow of Genesis Elder Care in Lancaster, and Mary Ramsdell and her husband Ted of Guildhall, Vt.; several grandchildren, Shelley Potter and husband Linwood of Groveton, Michael Beaton and wife Wendy of Groveton, Brian Beaton and his girlfriend Helena Bryant of Colebrook, Jessie Savage and her husband Daniel of Lancaster, Donna Lanctot and her husband Roger of Pittsburg, Curt McCarson and his wife Cookie of Littleton; along with many great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. At Mrs. Curtis's request, there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 17 in the Northumberland Cemetery, with retired pastor Curtis Smith officiating. "Pepe" Fregeau Longtime Groveton resident GROVETON -- Camille A. "Pepe" Fregeau, 72, of Dean Brook Drive, died suddenly on Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004 at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster. He was born in Cap St. Ignace, Que., Canada on Sept. 15, 1932, the son of the late Joseph and Evangeline (Fregeault) Fregeau. Camille was a resident of Groveton for 47 years. Before retiring, he was a self-employed woodsman. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church in Groveton and the Loyal Order of the Moose Post 1621, Groveton. He was an avid card player, and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and helping his son with his construction business. Camille was a loving father, grandfather and friend. Family members include his wife of 47 years, Rejeanne (Perras) Fregeau of Groveton; three daughters, Rachael Wall and husband Kevin and Joanne Reeves and husband Mike, all of Lebanon, Ind., and Lisa McCarthy and husband Sean of Maidstone, Vt.; five sons, Dennis Fregeau of Manchester, Michael Fregeau and Raymond Fregeau and wife Doris, all of Groveton, Richard Fregeau and girlfriend Linda Barter of Conway and Steve Fregeau and girlfriend Ellie Mills of Colebrook; 17 grandchildren, McKenzie, Josh, Danielle, Evan, Eddie, Kevin, David, Megan, Ben, Sarah, Colton, Ray Jr., Amber, Kristen, Isabel, Caden and Nate; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ghislaine Ouellette and husband Gervais and Jean D'Arc Richard, all of Canada; three brothers, Napoleon Fregeau and wife Pauline, Florien Fregeau and Fernand Fregeau and wife Monique, all of Canada; a sister-in-law, Jeannette Fregeau; two brothers-in-law, Real Perras and wife Alice and Fernand Perras; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A sister, Yvette and six brothers, Roger, Paul, Ivan, George, Sylvan and Bertrand died previously. Calling hours were held on Nov. 11 and 12 at the Armstrong-Charron Funeral Home, Groveton. A Mass of Christian burial was held on Nov. 13 at St. Francis Xavier Church, Groveton, with Fr. Donald Mulrenan officiating. Shirley Naomi Hunt Advocate for foster children LANCASTER -- Shirley Naomi "Lolly" (Ruggles) Hunt, 80, of McKee Inn, Lancaster, died on Monday, Nov. 15, 2004 at Country-Village Genesis Elder Care Center in Lancaster after a lengthy illness. She was born on Sept. 11, 1924 in Meriden, Conn., the daughter of the late Arthur E. and Lena (Green) Ruggles. Lolly lived in Lisbon and Littleton areas for several years before moving to Lancaster 13 years ago. She attended schools in Meriden, Conn. and graduated from Meriden High School. She went on to graduate from Chicago School of Nursing and received her Registered Nurse license. She worked as a Registered Nurse at hospitals and Children's Village, a home for orphaned children in Hartford, Conn. Lolly and her husband, Andrew shared their home with many, many foster children. She was a member of the Jehovah Witness Kingdom Hall, Lancaster. Family members include her husband of 53 years, Andrew E. Hunt of Lancaster; and a great nephew, David A. Waller of Meriden, Conn. Two brothers, Walter I. Ruggles and Arthur E. Ruggles Jr. died previously (Walter at 100); also four sisters, Gladys Pereyo, Beatrice Piatek, Edna Maslowski and Doris LaCroix. At Lolly's request there will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Kingdom Hall in Lancaster.
