DONALD FRIZZELL Donald G. Frizzell, 70, of Colebrook, died at his camp on Robichaud Brook in Dixville on Wednesday, January 12, 2005. Mr. Frizzell was born in West Burke, Vt., on April 4, 1934. He was the son of Burton Leo Frizzell and Miriam (Hooper) Frizzell Jenkins, and the stepson of Ralph Jenkins. After moving with his family from West Burke to Colebrook in 1945, Mr. Frizzell was graduated from Colebrook Academy in 1952. He served in the Army during the Korean War era. He then attended the Royal Victoria Hospital Graduate School of X-Ray Technology in Montreal, Quebec, graduating in 1958. Mr. Frizzell was employed as an X-ray technician for many years at several hospitals, including as the Director of the School of X-Ray Technology at North Adams Regional Hospital in North Adams, Mass. After returning home with his family to Colebrook in 1973, Mr. Frizzell was employed for many years at the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital. He also undertook many other jobs and pursuits, including chimney sweeping, buying and selling coins, selling insurance, and, in later years, selling moose "antlas" that he found during his trips in the woods. As a veteran, Mr. Frizzell was an active member of the American Legion, and served as Treasurer of the George L. O'Neil Post 62 in Colebrook. He faithfully marched in the Memorial Day parades. His community service also included twelve years on the Colebrook school board, three years on the Clarksburg, Mass., school board, many years on the Vestry of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Colebrook, as a Library Trustee in Clarksburg, and as an umpire at local baseball games. Mr. Frizzell is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 48 years, Elizabeth (Betty) Frizzell of Colebrook. Together they enjoyed many activities, including trips to Old Orchard Beach, attending Lancaster Fair with friends, dancing to the music of their son Tom's band, Thunder Valley Express, and attending Colebrook sporting events, especially those of his children and grandchildren. He also deeply loved his family and the outdoors, including snowmobiling and hunting big bucks in Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. Sims Hill, Meacham Swamp, and Stub Hill Pond were special places. Mr. Frizzell was also an avid long-distance runner, and a frequent participant in the annual Dixville Races since their inception. At the age of 67, Mr. Frizzell took first place in his age group in the New Hampshire Senior Olympics 5K run. Mr. Frizzell is also survived by three sons, Timothy D. Frizzell and his wife Linda, Thomas D. Frizzell and his wife Jane of Lemington, and Jonathan S. Frizzell and his wife Katherine of Colebrook; ten grandchildren; three brothers, Burton Leo (Buster) Frizzell and his wife Betty of Lemington, Barry W. Jenkins and his wife Beverly of Colebrook, and Brian H. Jenkins and his wife Melody of Winthrop, Maine; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Richard (Betty) Frizzell of Gloversville, N.York.; his mother-in-law, Marguerite H. Wiswell of Colebrook; his sister-in-law, Audrey W. Noyes and her husband Sam of Colebrook; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. Mr. Frizzell is preceded in death by his two brothers, Richard S. Frizzell and Terrence P. Jenkins. Calling hours were held on Saturday afternoon and evening at the Jenkins Funeral Home in Colebrook. A graveside service will be held in the spring at the Colebrook Village Cemetery, with Military Honors to follow. VICTORINE HORNER Victorine Horner, 82, of Canaan, died on Monday January 10, 2005 at the Genesis Heath Care Center in Lancaster. She was born on April 12, 1922 in Coventry, Vt., the daughter of Rene and Corine (Champagne) Godin. Mrs. Horner attended school in Coventry, after which she worked as a housekeeper, on local dairy farms and on her family's dairy farm in Johnson, Vt. She was married to Raymond Horner on June 1, 1946. The couple moved in the mid-1950s to Canaan, where Mrs. Horner was employed by Ethan Allen Furniture Manufacturing in Beecher Falls, and later as kitchen help at the Coos County Nursing Hospital in West Stewartstown, and at the Spa Restaurant in West Stewarts-town. In the mid-1970s she was employed by Manchester Man-ufacturing in Colebrook, where she would work until her retirement in the late 1980s. Mrs. Horner enjoyed Bingo, playing cards, reading and tending to her flower garden, but her favorite was time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Victorine Horner is survived by a son, Stanley Horner of Jefferson City, Mo.; two daughters, Jean Gagne of Canaan and Mrs. Duane (Joanne) Spencer of Pittsburg; a stepdaughter, Gloria Gray of Canaan; two brothers, Romeo Godin of Morrisville, Vt., and Edward Godin of Moscow, Vt.; two sisters, Mary Erno of Morrisville, Vt., and Lou Bedell of Stowe; seven grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; a great-grandchild and four step-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband in 1981; by two brothers, Roland and Rene; and three sisters, Doris, Irene and Corine. Calling hours were held on Friday, January 14 at the Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook. Funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon at Grace Methodist Church in Canaan, with the Rev. ARMAND KING Armand R. "Joe" King, 76, of Groveton, died on January 14, 2005 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in White River Junction, Vt. Born on September 19, 1928 in North Stratford, he was the son of William and Carmen (Dupuis) King. He was raised in North Stratford, and served in the Army for a time. He worked for the railroad for several years and for Groveton Paper Company for many years. He also worked as a social worker, a bus driver and a cemetery caretaker, and he acquired a welder's license. He loved fishing, hunting and raising chickens. Mr. King was a member of American Legion Post 17 in Groveton, and was a fourth-degree knight with the Knights of Columbus. The family includes four sons, Millard King of Lancaster, Armand King Jr. of Barnet, Vt., Patrick King of Lancaster and John King of Whitefield; two daughters, Linda Raymond of Lancaster and Cindy Hatjialexiou of Colebrook; six sisters, Rita Emerson of Lancaster, Orleans Jeffers of Westbrook, Maine, Joyce Holden of Charlestown, Gloria Brooks of Lancaster, Darlene Henry of Pittsburg and Carol Sibulkin of Hooksett; 21 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours were held on Sunday afternoon and evening at Bailey Funeral Home in Lancaster. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Monday at All Saints Church in Lancaster. The Rev. Raymond Ball, pastor, officiated. A graveside committal service with military honors will be held in the spring at Calvary Cemetery in Lancaster. DAMIEN MAHONEY Mr. Damien P. Mahoney, 65, of Pittsburg, died at his home on Friday, January 7, 2005. Mr. Mahoney was born on February 14, 1939 in Boston, son of the late Thomas C. and Helen (Farrell) Mahoney. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1956 and served as a Ham radio operator during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1962 and enrolled at Bentley College in Waltham, Mass., graduating with a dual bachelor of arts degree in accounting and science. During this period, he was married to Maureen Moore. After graduation he became a successful financial business architect, working for numerous Fortune 500 companies and for the U.S. government and the governments of Saudi Arabia, Luxembourg, Canada and Switzerland. He also worked as an independent contractor for Chase Manhattan and other financial institutions. He ultimately retired in Pittsburg because of his love of hunting and fishing. He enjoyed snowmobiling and was a member of the Pittsburg Ridge Runners. He was also a member of the Pittsburg Guides' Association. Mr. Mahoney is survived by his four children, Scott Mahoney of Foxboro, Mass., Sean Mahoney of Attleboro, Mass., Colleen Monjure of Hoschton, Ga., and Michael Mahoney of Norwood, Mass.; two sisters, Carla Goode of Weymouth, Mass., and Karen Goode of Dennis, Mass.; two grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. There will be no calling hours. A Mass was celebrated on Friday morning, January 14, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Walpole, Mass. A graveside service will be conducted in the spring at the Lakeside Cemetery in Pittsburg, with military honors to follow. KAY NELSON Catherine (Kay) Isabel Anderson Nelson, 91, of Canaan, died on Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at the Derby Green Nursing Home in Derby, Vt. She was born on September 10, 1913 in Calais, Maine, the daughter of James B. and Mary (Anderson) Anderson. She attended school in Calais, and was a 1931 graduate of Calais Academy. She went on to attend Lynn Hospital School of Nursing in Lynn, Mass., graduating in 1937 as a registered nurse. She was married to the late Arthur H. Nelson on December 25, 1937. In 1947 the Nelsons moved to Canaan, where Mr. Nelson served as a Border Patrol officer and later as an agent for Immigration and Naturalization Service. Mrs. Nelson was extremely active in Canaan community affairs and events. She served as past president of the Canaan Woman's Club and was best known as a longtime correspondent for the News and Sentinel, for whom she penned her column "Canaan Chatter." Mrs. Nelson was also active in the Grace Methodist Church Women's Fellowship and the University of Vermont Extension Homemakers, and as a member of the St. John de Crevecoeur Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Mrs. Nelson is survived by a daughter, Judith and her husband James Kavanagh of Newport, Vt.; a son, David and his wife Patricia Nelson of Wilton, N.H.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and her lifelong friend, Lillian Nutile of Wakefield, Mass. There will be no calling hours. Funeral services were held on Sunday, January 16 at Grace Methodist Church in Canaan, with the Reverend Priscilla Hull officiating. SANDRA STONE Sandra "Sandy" Ann Stone, 66, of Colebrook, died on Friday evening, January 14, 2005 at the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital. Sandy was born on May 30, 1938 in West Stewartstown, daughter of Natalie Corkum Stone and the late Wilfred Meredith Stone. She was graduated from Canaan Memorial High School in 1955 and from Fisher College of Boston, Mass. For many years she was office manager for the national advertising firm of Tathan, Laird and Kudner of Chicago, Ill. In 1978 she returned to Colebrook and opened a successful upholstery business and later, a craft shop. She especially enjoyed painting as well as various other crafts. Sandy is survived by her mother, Natalie Stone of West Stewartstown; a sister, Joanne Stone of Colebrook; a cousin, Averil Florio of Brockton, Mass; and numerous other cousins. Calling hours were held on Tuesday afternoon, January 18 at the Jenkins Funeral Home in Colebrook, followed by a funeral service at the funeral home, with Pastor Priscilla Hull officiating. An interment service will be held in the spring at the Alice Hunt Cemetery.
