This name was given as early as 1648 to the road that led from Cochecho Falls to the Great Cochecho marsh, north of the "Great hill." It is now the Garrrison Hill road. Several other cart-ways in early times are mentioned, one of which led from Toldend falls into Cochecho Log Swamp,and another across Bunker's Neck, "for transporting timer," mentioned as early as 1653.
