Landmarks in Ancient Dover, New Hampshire by Mary P. Thompson, Durham, N.H. ©1892, Printed by the Republican Press Association, Concord, N.H. LANDMARKS: Hay Stack NAMES: BINN, Jonas; WEBB, George; ADAMS, Charles; Hay Stack. Mentioned in 1654, when Jonas Binn had a grant of ten acres on the S.W. side of Branson’s creek, joining Geo. Webb, and next to Charles Adams’ lot, "the east side coming to a little gutt right over against a place called the hay stack." This was near the upper shore of the great Bay, above Crummit’s creek, but the name has not been retained. It may have been a place where the early settlers stacked their salt hay or thatch.
