LANDMARKS:  Heard’s Pond, otherwise Herd’s

NAMES: 	HEARD, John; HEARD, Samuel; 

	Heard’s Pond, otherwise Herd’s.  Holland’s map of 1784 gives this name to Cole’s 
pond, in the N.E. part of Somersworth.  It was perhaps derived from John and Samuel 
Heard, who were engaged in the lumber business on the Salmon Falls river in the middle 
of last century.
