Part I - General View- History

1639 - This year Capt. John Underhill was made governor at Dover.  As soon as he was 
fixed in authority, he proceeded to gather a church, over which Hanserd Knolleys was 
appointed minister.  He was a Baptist of the antinomian order, and like the governor his 
patron, was a man of bad character.  Before the end of the year, Underhill was displaced 
and one Roberts was appointed in his stead.
