Subject: Note about Contributors of Courier Indexs Rochester, NH A personal note with regards to the Rochester Courier Index's and the contributors of these files. 6/30/2000. Bruce Mathewson is the man that spent painstaking hours transcribing and cataloging these newspapers. He said to me, "at first it wasn't too bad I could take them off the shelf and they were right in front of me." As he was progressing along into the years of the paper [1920's] he noticed that not only were these bound in "bulky and cumbersome" packages known only as VOLUMES, but the paper was brittle and you had to exercise some care with them. He informed me that, "Physically" it was becoming a difficult task to wrestle and catalogue these papers. He had now been at this volunteer pro- ject a year and a half and was going to quit with the 1920's. Besides volunteering for the Library, Mr. Mathewson has made himself avail- able for many other volunteer projects in the community of Rochester. He is a credit to the city and should receive some recognition for his efforts. Having worked with these papers myself, I can appreciate and marvel at his efforts and sacrifice. Marija C. Sanderling, who is the head of adult services at the Rochester Library, made them available for the public to use by placing them on the Web. She endeavors to find the lastest, greatest, resources and has made Rochester one of the best Resource Departments around. We are very happy that she made time and space to include the index's. They are extremely valuable resources of time and effort as well as their significance to Genealogy. -C Parziale **************************************************************************** * * * * Notice: Printing the files within by non-commercial individuals and libraries is encouraged, as long as all notices and submitter information is included.
