Foster's Daily Democrat October 24, 1955 Ex-Mayor Carroll E. Hall Died Suddenly Today Hon. Carroll E. Hall, 73, former mayor of Dover, present member of the city council and a Strafford County commissioner, and chairman of the Democratic City committee, died unexpectedly this morning at his home, 61 Rutland Street. He was born in Barnstead, December 17, 1882, the son of Frank H. and Clara J. (Elliott) Hall, but resided in Strafford from shortly after his birth until coming to Dover in 1912. Mr. Hall was engaged in the lumber business with his father until after moving to this city. In recent years, he has dealt in real estate in Dover, York Beach and Haverhill, Mass. His interest in public affairs has been long, active and continuous, since serving on the School Board in Strafford. In Dover, he was elected mayor once, but served as acting mayor on several occaisions. He was a former chairman of the Dover School committee, trustee of the Wentworth Dover Hospital, a member of the Strafford County Board of commissionsers, the Dover Planning board, a former representative to the New Hampshire general court, and former state senator. His leadership in local Democratic circles was generally recognized, and his influence was felt throughout a wide area of the state. Mr Hall was a graduate of Coe-Brown Academy at Northwood, and the former Dover Business College, now the McIntosh Business College, and he was a veteran member of the Olive Branch Lodge No. 6, K of P. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ella (Buzzell) Hall; one daughter, Mrs. Lawrence R. Nealley, and three grandchildren, all of Dover; also several cousins. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday from St. Thomas' Episcopal church. Interment will take place in the family lot in Pine Hill cemetery. Friends are invited to pay their respects at the late home, 61 Rutland street, after 7 o'clock this evening and Tuesday afternoon and evening at their convenience.
