Parziale, Nov 2000 **************************************************************************** (Farmington) FARMINGTON’S OLDEST MAN In the death of Joseph W. Johnson Farmington loses its oldest citizen and holder of the Boston Post cane. For several years Mr. Johnson has been in failing health but still retained his interest in all public affairs. He was a native of Wolfeboro, the son of Joseph and Lurana (Whitten) Johnson and was 96 years of age last month. By occupation he was a farmer, also a skilled shoemaker. Mr. Johnson was a veteran of the Civil war, enlisting in the first New Hampshire volunteers heavy artillery, Sept. 20, 1864, and served for the remainder of the war, receiving an honorary discharge and a citation for service on June 18, 1865. Following the ward he returned to civil life and about 25 years ago came to Farmington, where he has since resided.
