Chester Howard Smith Obituary - Died Nov 14, 1960 in Rochester, NH From: Darlene Walsh - - Great-granddaughter of deceased Chester Howard Smith was born 12 July 1881 the son of Edward Smith and Mary Lucinda Knight(s). He died 14 Nov 1960. Foster's Daily Democrat says: "Chester H. Smith Died Sunday Rochester--Chester H. Smith, 78 of this city, died Sunday at a local nursing home after a long illness. He was born in Lebanon, Me., and had lived in Rochester most of his life. He retired three years ago from the Boston and Maine railroad after working for 53 years as a yard clerk in Rochester and Dover. He was a 32nd degree member of the New Hampshire Consistory of Nashua; a member of Humane Lodge F and AM; and the Scottish Rites Bodies, Valley of Portsmouth in Dover. He was also a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Clerks and the Firemen's Relief association. He was a member of the Torrent Hose Company. He served as clerk for Ward 2 for several years. Members of the family include his wife, Mrs. Mary E. (Butterfield) Smith; a daughter Mrs. Bet- Osborn of Dover, and a son, Ellston W. Smith of Barre, Vt. Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at the Edgerly Funeral Home chapel. Rev. Donald March, rector of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, will officiate.
