JAMES BOWERS, a native of Hancock, was of the fourth generation in this country; grandfather 
Jerathmeel Bowers of Leominster, Massachusetts; father John Bowers of Hancock.  JAMES BOWERS 
married Nancy Symonds of Hancock, 1816, settled in Acworth 1821, died November 1858 - children,
I. Nancy Symonds, married Jacob Proctor of Lunenburg, Massachusetts - children,
	1 James Edmund
	2 Anna E.
II. Pamelia
III. Maria, married   Merrill of Boston -  children,
	1 Helen M
IV. Lucinda married Henry J. Oliver of Boston.
V. James L., died unmarried 1849.
VI. Joseph Symonds, married Mary L. Mitchell (see Mitchell family) - children,
	1 Flora E.
	2 Charles D.
	3 Elbron I.
VII. Luke Shepherd, married Thankful M. Newell, studied law with Asa Fowler of Concord; practices
in Newport; register of probate for Sullivan County since 1861.
VIII. Elizabeth Hannah died young.
IX. Mary Elizabeth married James A. Wood (see Wood family).
X. Sarah Jane.
