Saunderson pub. 1876 p.85 Capt Rogers (Roger's Rangers) attempting to reach Fort 4 leaving his men behind and taking with him Capt. Ogden and one ranger and a captive Indian boy embarked on a raft made of dry pine trees.  Leaving behind Lieut. Grant, commander of the party whom Capt Rogers had taught to prepare nuts and lily roots cleansed and boiled to preserve life.  They reached the fort within ten days and within two hours of his arrival went upriver with other canoes laden with provision for the relief of the others of his party.  When his men, whom they had rescued were refreshed they marched for Crown Point arriving Dec l, l759 and joined with the army of Lord Amherst.  Note: This is a famous chapter in the hist. novel, "Northwest Passage" by Kenneth Roberts pub. l937. ************************************************* * * * * NOTICE: Printing the files within by non-commercial individuals and libraries is encouraged, as long as all notices and submitter information is included.
