JOHN1 REED (or Read) was b. in England, 1598; d. Rehoboth, Mass., Sept. 7, 1685. He came to "America with the great fleet in 1630"; res. Weymouth, Mass., 1637; Dorchester, 1638; Braintree (Quincy), and in 1643/44, settled in Rehoboth; m. Sarah ---. 2. Thomas2 Reed, b. Braintree, Nov. 9, 1641; m. Elizabeth Clark. 3. James3 Reed, b. Rehoboth, July 6, 1672; m. Mercy Cooper. 4. Nathan4 Reed, b. Rehoboth, May 4, 1715; m. Dorothy Titus. 5. Ezra5 Reed (Nathan4, James3, Thomas2, John1), b. Rehoboth, Jan. 18, 1754; d. L.?, Oct. 30, 1834; 81y.; int. L.V.C. He was called a "mechanic"; settled in C. as early as 1785; on Mar. 6th of that year he purchased of Abiah [perhaps Abel] Walker, 100 acre lot 4, r. 2 in the L. part of C. for £100. On June 20, 1820 Mr. Reed bought land and buildings s-w. of village Common of Abraham Boynton for $200. He served as selectman, 1789-90, he also served in Rev. war, qv. He m. ---, Patience Walker, b. 1757; d. L.? Jan. 12, 1834; int. L.V.C. in her 78th year. Jan. 3, 1816 they sold land to William Wilson. Ch. b.--recorded in L.: 6. i. Leonard6, b. Leonard6 Reed (Ezra5, Nathan4, James3, Thomas2, John1), a farmer; in the n-w. highway district 1836; spent most of his life in L. and was "assisted" in his old age. He m. Cynthia Goodnow.
