The cemetery which is located in Galloway Township, Atlantic County, NJ, between Pitney Road and Old Port Republic Rd but on Moss Mill Rd. Heading North on Pitney Road, turn right on to Moss Mill Rd on the right side as you enter the first left curve approx 240 feet South from center lane of Moss Mill Rd. This property is presently owned by a large contractor who has the intent of erecting housing in the entire area. ================================================================================================ The First Head Stone as you enter through gateway (which is a center path approximately 4'>6' wide 50' long) 4>5 steps (approx 12 to 15 feet) on the left is laying flat broken from the base and split at the bottom of the inscription. Inscribed as follows: IN MEMORY OF ASENATH SOOY WHO DEPARTED THIS LIFE JULY 18th 1860 AGED 77YRS 4MO 25 DAYS HERE REST THE LOST ????????? OF EARTH ================================================================================================ The Second Head Stone is located 6>7 steps in from gate also on the left side. This stone is under a tree and has turned very black. But standing tall. Inscribed the best I could make out as follows: IN MEMORY OF LEVI COLLINS WHO DEPARTED THIS LIFE THE 24th OF THE 3rd MONTH 1813 AGE 40 YEARS 6 MONTHS AND 4 DAYS ================================================================================================ THERE ARE TWO MORE STONES ON THE LEFT ONE 12>13 AND ANOTHER 14>15 STEPS FROM GATEWAY BOTH HAVE BEEN BROKEN NEAR THE BASE. THE UPPER PARTS ARE NOT VISIBLE ANYWHERE IN THE YARD, WHICH BY THE WAY IS FENCED WITH AN IRON SPIKED FENCE, THE GATE HAS BEEN REMOVE AND IS LAYING ON THE GROUND. THE ENTIRE FENCE IS RUSTED BADLY. ================================================================================================ At the rear and just right of the center walkway is a Holly Tree standing tall. In the rear right hand corner is the impression of a collapsed grave a full 6'x 3' size no Identification on it. ================================================================================================ The Third Head Stone about 12 steps from gateway on the right and midway between the path and right side fencing reads as follows: IN MEMORY OF RICHARD COLLINS BORN OCT 11 1798 DIED MAY 22 1838 ================================================================================================ The Fourth Head Stone to the right and rear of number three or 9>10 steps from gateway on the right near the right side fence reads as follows: DANIEL L COLLINS BORN JULY 17 1818 DIED NOV 5 1887 AGED 79YR 3 MO 18 DAYS Again in front of number Four Head Stone near center path is the remains of a stone broken off just inches above the ground. ================================================================================================ There are no signs of other graves on this date 15 April 1999. Pine Trees are taking over the interior of the cemetery and exterior areas. I will try to do something about this. Eugene Truax Jr. of Galloway Township. ================================================================================================ ================================================================================================ Found this in the Atlantic County Historical Society on Friday April 9 1999.
