George Franklin Fort was born in Pemberton in May, 1809. He graduated M. D., University of Pennsylvania, in 1830. He was a member of the New Jersey Assembly, of the State Constitutional Convention of 1844, and later a State Senator. He was Governor, 1851-54, and subsequently judge of the Court of Errors and Appeals. He received the degree of M. A. from the College of New Jersey, in 1847. He died in New Egypt, New Jersey, April 22, 1872.
