This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Donna Evans, Dbepre@aol.com ==================================================================== Burlington County Deeds, Book Y2, page 23 James Bowker & others to Mary Jobes This indenture made the Second day of the fifth month written May in the year of our Lord one thousand and eight hundred and twenty two Between James Bowker and Hannah his wife, Elizabeth Bowker and Jane Bowker, which James, Elizabeth and Jane are three of the children and heirs at law of Joseph Bowker late of the town of Mount Holly in the township of Northampton in the County of Burlington and State of New Jersey Deceased of the first part and Mary Jobes wife of William Jobes of the town of Mount Holly in the township county and state aforesaid of the other part Joseph Bowker the father of the said James, Elizabeth and Jane Bowker and also the father of the said Mary Jobes by virtue of a deed of conveyance from under the hand and seal of Ephraim Clark of the city of Philadelphia Duly executed and dated the eleventh day of the third month A.D. 1815 and recorded in Book B2 of Deeds p. 578 & --- clerk's office of the county of Burlington at Mount Holly became seized of and vested in a certain messuage frame dwelling house lot of land here --- and premises situate lying and being in Mount Holly aforesaid & Whereas the said Joseph Bowker being so therefore lawfully seized did --- under his hand and seal execute a mortgage deed to the said Ephraim Clark to --- to him the said Ephraim Clark the payment of one hundred and thirty --- dollars together with its interest And further the said Joseph Bowker did also under his hand execute to Thomas B. Smith one other mortgage deed to receive to him the said Thomas the payment of the sum of thirty two dollars together with its interest which two sums above written and the interest (or a considerable part thereof are still unpaid or was unpaid at the time of the decease of the said Joseph Bowker and formed a lien or encumbrance upon the said estate Whereof the said Joseph Bowker died seized of --- Whereas the said Joseph Bowker was for a considerable time before his death --- and unable to support himself ------ to William Jobes the husband of the said Mary Jobes for his clothing, boarding, washing, Lodging, and --- and also for his funeral expenses all of which are still due owing to the estate whereof the said Joseph Bowker died seizes a lien and incumbrance on the same Now therefore this indenture witnesseth that the said James Bowker and Hannah his wife, Elizabeth Bowker and Jane Bowker parties of the first part for and in consideration of the said sum of one hundred and thirty six dollars secured by mortgage dated the eleventh of March AD 1815 on said property to the said Ephraim Clark together with the interest due and to become due and also for the further consideration of the sum of sixty two dollars secured by the mortgage dated the Seventh Day of August AD 1818 to the said Thomas P. Smith together with the interest therein due or to become due And also for in and in consideration of the expenses which the said Joseph Bowker has been to William Jobes the husband of the said Mary Jobesas it respects his clothing boarding washing lodging and mending and his funeral charges & upon which above considerations & --- are being duly paid & satisfied to her the said Mary & to her heirs or assigns the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged and they the said James Bowker and Hannah his wife, Elizabeth Bowker and Jane Bowker doth own themselves fully paid Now know all men by these presents that we the said James Bowker and Hannah his wife Elizabeth and Jane Bowker for and in consideration of the above mentioned have granted bargained and sold aliened --- --- released and forever quitclaimed unto the said Mary Jobes her heirs and assigns and by these presents for ourselves and our heirs do absolutely grant, bargain and se;, alien enfeoff, release and forever quit claim unto the said Mary Jobes her heirs and assigns forever all manner of Dower or right of Dower and also all the estate, right title, interest, use trust, possession, property, claim and Demand whatsover of them the said James Bowker and Hannah his wife, Elizabeth and Jane Bowker or either of them or their heirs now have or might have or should brought --- to have or enjoy of into or out of the said exchange dwelling house lot of land, hereditaments, and premises whereof the said Joseph Bowker died seized either in law or in equity of and in the same as it is herein after bounded and described viz. Beginning at a Post on High Street corner to the lot of land that Joseph Butterworth by his last will and testament gave and bequeathed to his Daughters from which it runs first by the same north eighty six degrees past the side of the house in the line/one chain and fifty links to a post corner to said Butterworths daughters back lot thence by the north one degree east twenty feet and two inches to a post corer to a lot belonging to the estate of Thomas - Trotter thence by the same south eighty six degrees west to the north end of the house in the line to a post on said High Street thence on a straight line down said High Street to the place of Beginning - seven square perches and two tenths of a perch of land be the same more or less Together with all and singular the building: edifices, fences, ---, ---, rights, liberties, privileges --- --- thereunto belonging and also all the reversion and the remainders --- and profits thereof and of every part and parcel thereof and also all the estate, right, title, interest, use, trust, property, possession, claim and --- whatsoever either in law or in equity & otherwise thereof --- of him the said Joseph Bowker--- --- before his decease --- and to the said Described hereby intended to be conveyed premised and also all --- of actions rights of dower or claims whatsoever so that neither of us nor our heirs nor any other person or persons for us or in our names can use or shall have --- --- dower right or action of Dower of or with said lot of land and premises or any part thereof shall or may have claim or prosecute In Witness whereof the said James Bowker and Hannah his wife, Elizabeth Bowker and Jane Bowker parties of the first part to this indenture have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year first above written 1822 James Bowker Hannah Bowker Elizabeth Bowker Jane Bowker Daniel Wills Jno. Blackwood Burlington County: --- Be it remembered that personally came and appeared before me the subscriber one of the Judges of the --- court of common pleas for and in the said County James Bowker and Elizabeth Bowker tow of the executors in the before written deed named and acknowledged that they signed sealed and delivered the --- quitclaim or --- for the usesand purposes therein contained the contents of the above written quitclaim or conveyance being of the first made known to the said James and Elizabeth Bowker and I being satisfied that they are the executors therein named Taken and acknowledged before me the ---Day of February eighteen hundred and twenty three Jno. Blackwood Burlington County State of New Jersey to wit Be it remembered that --- ninth day of the tenth month October in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and twenty eight personally came and appeared before me the subscriber one of the commissioners appointed for the taking of acknowledgments and proofs of deeds in and for the said County Hannah Bowker wife of James Bowker who I am satisfied is one of the grantors or releasors in the above written deed of release or quitclaim to whom I first made know the contents thereof and who being privately examined separately and apart from her husband acknowledged that she signed, sealed and delivered the said deed of release or quitclaim as her --- set and deed freely without any fears, threat or compulsion from her husband.
