Smith to Joseph Butterworth This indenture made the twelfth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety three Between James Smith Junior of the City of Philadelphia in the state of Pennsylvania merchant and Richard Smith of the township of Chester in the county of Burlington and State of New Jersey Merchant Assignees in trust for all the creditors of Joseph Bowker of Mount Holly in the township of Northampton in the County of Burlington aforesaid Shopkeeper of the one part, and Joseph Butterworth of Mount Holly aforesaid --- and party of the other part Witnesseth that the said James Smith Junior & Richard Smith for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred and fifty pounds in gold and silver money to them in hand paid by the said Joseph Butterworth before the --- hereof the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have granted bargained sold aended, released and confirmed by these presents Do absolutely grant, bargain, sell, aliend, --- --- --- unto the sd Joseph Butterworth his heirs and assigns forever --- messuages, tenements and lot of land adjoining each other situate laying and being on the east side of High Street in Mount Holly aforesaidand bounded as follows Beginning at a post in the said High Street forty links to the westward of --- --- from which --- up the said street north one degree east twenty seven and two thirds links to a corner of a lot now in the possession of James Clothier thence 2nd by the Said Clothier south--ly --- Degrees East one chain and sixty links to the line of 2 lotts now in the possession of William Chew thence --- in the --- ---one degree west sixty four linkds to a stake --- --- -- - thence 4th Mill by the same North Sixty eight Degrees west one chain and fifty links to a stake in Richard --- and --- W.P. Chew. Thence 5th up the said street north --- degrees and thirty five and a half links to the place of Beginning Containing thriteen and a half squre perches of land be the same more or less Together with all and singular the ways, passage, improvements, froftis, advantages, ---, hereditaments and appurtenances to the said granted premises gelonging and to the right, title, possession, use, property, claim and demand whatosoever both in --- and equity of them the said James Smith Junior and Richard Smith and their heirs and every of their heirs therein and thereto with the reversions and remainders rents --- and profits thereof and in every part and parcel thereof which premises the said James Smith Junior and Richard Smtih became seized of among other htings by verture of a certain indenture under the hand and seal of Joseph Bowker and Abigail his wife bearing date teh fourth Day of November last past which premises the said Joseph Bowker had purchased of Ephraim Clark by indenture duly proved bearing date the 21st Day of February 1792 and the said Ephraim Clark purchased the same premises with the appurtenances of Solomon White and Hannah his wife by indenture bearing Date the 20th Day of March 1780 and is recorded in the Secretarys office at Burlington in Lib AL Deeds f 329& which said premises the said Solomon White purchased of Ruth Smith by indenture bearing Date the 17th Day of February 1776 wherein the --- with is more folly set forth, records being thereunto had, will more largely appear To have and To Hold all and singular the said two messuages and lots of land and premises above mentioned, bounded and Described, with all and singular the hereditaments and appurtenances, to the same in any wise belongin unto him the said Joseph Butterworth, his heirs and assigns, to the duly proper use benefit and behoof of him the said Joseph Butterworth his heirs & assigns forever And the said James Smith Junior and Richard Smith for themselves their heirs executors and administrators do covenant and agree to our with the said Joseph Butterworth his heirs and assigns by these presents in manner and form following, that is to say that they the said James Smith Junior and Richard Smith or either of them have not Done commited or suffered to be Done or committed any all matter or thing whatsoever that has or shall in anywise charge Burthen or incumber the premises above granted or any part thereof In witness whereof the sd James Smith Junior and Richard Smith have herunto set their hands and seals the Day and year above written 1793. Read Be it remembered that on the eleventh day of January A.D. 1794 personally appeared before me Joseph Read Esquire one of the Masters in the Cour of Chancery of the State of New Jersey Samuel Joseph Read , one of the subscribing witnesses to the written indenture who being duly sworn according ot law Doth Declare and say that he was present and saw James Smith Junior and Richard S. Smith the Grantors in the within indenture named, sign, seal and as their act & deed deliver the same for the use and puroses there mentioned and that Joseph Stokes and Zachariah Read was present and subscribed their names as witnesses to the execution of the within indenture by the Grantors as mentioned Samuel J.
