(Bridgeton, N.J.) 1851-1884: March 29, 1856 March 29, 1856 On Sunday morning last, a party of three men the correct names of whom are Jacob Lenairs, Augustus Arnable Courcier and Adolph De Lasaule, crossed the Delaware, with guns and dog, for the purpose of gunning; while trespassing on the farm of Mr. Wm. J. Hatch, he ordered them to leave the premises and took a gun from one of the party; while in the attempt of seizing the gun of another of the trespassers, he was shot through the head, causing instant death. The murderers were arrested and committed. On Monday morning witnesses were examined, and the Coroners Jury gave a verdict that Wm. J. Hatch came to his death from wounds received by the discharge of a gun, in the hands of Jacob Lenairs, on Sunday morning, March 25, that Augustus Arnable Courcier, was accessory to the act, and that Adolph De Lasaule be held as a witness. Mr. H. was a respectable and wealthy citizen of Camden, and a member of the Common Council of that city. The murderers were under the influence of liquor when they committed the awful deed.
