Stauffer, 77, of Vinelanddied Monday in Cooper Hospital-University Medical Center, Camden on October 6, 1997. Born in Akron, Ohio, he was a Vineland resident most of his life. He attended schools in Vineland, and was a graaduate of Vineland HIgh School's class of 1939. Mr. Stauffer enlisted in the Navy during WW II, becoming a Carpenter's Mate forst class, and also qualifying as a Navy diver. He was a plank owner of the USS Skagit, AKA 105, serving aboard as a Carpenter's Mate. He served in the European and South Pacific theaters of war, and was present at Tokoyo Bay during the signing of Japanaese Surrender while a member of the USS Skagit crew. He was an active member of the Veterana of Foreign Wars post in Millville, and a former officer of the post. Mr. Stauffer received his teaching certificate from Temple Univsity, Philadelphia. He was instrumental in implemementing the building construction trade program for the Philadelphia school district where he was emploed for 20 years. He was formerly a builder in the Vineland area for many years, and a member of the First United Methodist Church, and the Vineland Stamp Club. Mr. Stauffer was active in the Vineland Senior Citizens Club and the AARP. He was an Eagle Scout in Vineland, and one of the first Vineland Times Journal news carriers. Survivors include his wife, Betty (Riccio); four sons, Charles Wayne of Manahawkin, Ronald Brian of Shiloh, Ricky Michael of Vineland and Kerry Lyle of Estelle Manor; two sistersd, Rhoda Nuttall of Laurel Lake, and Charlotte DeVries of Wildwood; and six grandchildren.
