(Bridgeton, N.J.) 1851-1884: December 17, 1859 December 17, 1859 On Friday afternoon of last week, three children of Capt. Joseph Branin, residing near Millville, where playing in the room in which there were three guns; two of them were loaded with powder and shot, the other with powder only. It appears that while playing with the guns, the little girl, aged about three years, must have had the muzzle of the gun, loaded with powder only, close to her mouth, when it was discharged, causing almost instant death. The mother, who was in the adjoining room and heard the report, ran to their relief, when, sad to relate, her little daughter was lying a corpse on the floor. The two brothers, one aged about six years, and the other about eight, were frightened so much that they could scarcely tell how it happened.
