E. DAY CELEBRATIONS The Societies of the First M. P. and Trinity M. E. Churches Have Interesting Programmes. Yesterday being the twenty-second anniversary of the organization of the first Christian Endeavor Society, several of the local societies celebrated the event Sunday evening. At the First M. P. Church the C. E. Society had charged of the regular Sunday evening service. The society has had in charge two weeks of prayer and revival services, and with the meeting of Sunday evening, entered upon the third week. The meeting opened with a spirited song service, and prayers. The president, Samuel Hall, read a paper on the organization and expansion of the C. E. movement, in which he gave figures showing the magnitude of the cause in the various countries of the world. He also gave many instances of what is being done in unlikely places, among which are the army and navy, prisons, asylums, poorhouses, etc. Misses Ethel Seeley and Meta Simpkins sang a very pretty duet and this was followed by a fine paper by the secretary, Mrs. Ella Knauf. She spoke of the different ways in which the society could do good work and gave several incidents where the most practical of efforts had been put forth, both in the funeral and local societies. The choir rendered an anthem and the pastor, Rev. L. D Shultz, made an interesting address on the salient features of the Christian Endeavor movement, which have a tendency to increase the spirit of consecration and fellowship and bring out efficient workers. There was one response to the appeal to lead a higher life for Christ and the Church. TRINITY C. S. At their regular meeting Sunday night the Christian Endeavor Society of Trinity M. E. Church had an interesting service which was in charge of Isaac Garton. The following program was given: Song service; responsive reading; 95th Psalm; the Lord's prayer in unison; singing; responsive reading; Deut. 30, 11:20; remarks by leader on C. E. Day; selection, 'I Know He Cares' choir; reading, 'A Time for Decision,' Miss Lucie A Henderson; vocal duet, Misses Lucretia Sheppard and Margaret Henderson; reading, 'Value of an Early Choice,' Miss Jennie Nickelson; singing; reading; a poem, 'To-morrow,' Miss Jessie A. Rice. The pastor Rev. D. B. Harris, gave an address in which he said that our lives are what we make them. There are obstacles in the way of our becoming rich or great, perhaps, but there are none but what we can overcome in the way our being good. We will never become Christians, however, but by making a decision. It is a personal matter, no one else can do it for us. The best time from every standpoint is in our youth for our opportunities grow less as we grow older. It is not only at the start that we are called on to make decisions, but all through our Christian life. Questions come up and we should always make the decision on the side of truth and right.
