West-Jersey pioneer. (Bridgeton, N.J.) 1851-1884: February 16, 1856
Died at the residence of his father, near Newport, January 16, 1856, after a painful
illness of three weeks, Mr. Lemuel Bateman, in the 20th year of his age. The
deceased had been engaged as teacher in one of our public schools for 9 months
previous, he had the confidence and respect of the parents and the attachment of the
children. He was impressed a week previous to his death that he should not recover,
spoke of arrangements for his funeral, and selected the passage he wished improved
on the occasion...
