(Bridgeton, N.J.) 1851-1884: 6 October 1855 Died at Newport, on Sunday, Sept. 30, 1855, Mrs. Jane W., wife of John Compton, after a lingering illness of five months. She was in all respects a lovely and interesting woman, attractive in her personal appearance, affable in her manners, arniable in her disposition, warm in her affections and consistent and devoted as a Christian… On Tuesday, her remains were taken to the M. E. Church, where appropriate religious services were held, in the presence of a large and deeply affected audience; after which she was committed to the silent grave, to await the morning of the resurrection. “Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord.” J.
