(Bridgeton, N.J.) 1851-1884: 27 October 1855 Departed this life near Newport, on Saturday, the 13th inst., Mr. Henry Shaw, Sr., in the 88th year of his age. The deceased was one of the oldest inhabitants of the place where he lived, and was well known to the public in his past history as having filled important offices of trust and responsibility, both in the county and State of which he was a citizen. He was for many years a member of the Baptist Church of Dividing Creek, one of her eldest Deacons, and for a long period President of the board of her trustees, until the infirmities of age obliged him to resign those offices… His remains were followed by a large concourse of people on Monday the 15th inst. to the Baptist church of Dividing Creek, where the occasion was appropriately improved by the Rev. George Sleeper and others from a passage of Scripture selected by the deceased previous to his death, from Rev. 14 chapter and 13th verse… After which they were deposited by the side of those of his wife to await the resurrection of the just.
