The twentieth day of January in y’ of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and forty and eight I, Thomas Pagett of Stow Creek in the County of Cumberland in the province of West New Jersey, yeoman. Being of reasonable health of body and of perfect mind and memory thanks be given to God therefore calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for men once to dye, do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament (that is to say), principally and first of all I give and (reconvene?) my soul to God that give it (hoping?) through the merits death and passions of my Savior, Jesus Christ to have full and free pardon and forgiveness of all my sins and to inherit everlasting life and my body I commit to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my executor hereafter named, nothing doubting but at the General Resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God and as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life, I give, demise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form (that is to say), first I will that all those debts and duty as I do owe in right or (consequence?) to any person or persons whatsoever shall be well and truly contented and paid or ordained to be paid in convenient time after my decease by my executor hereafter named. Item: I give and bequeath to Dorothy Pagett, my beloved wife, one half of my moveable estate after my debts are paid, as also half the profits of my plantation and the lower ____ place the ______ Room during her widowhood and of the (monies?) I allow her her third of the profit of my plantation and ____ during her life. Item: I give and bequeath to my first son, John, payoff the sum of five shillings proclamation money to be paid to him out of my moveable estate by my executor hereafter named in convenient time after my decease. Item: I give, devise and bequeath to my second son, David Pagett my plantation that I now dwell on with all my lands and meadows that is upon the South side of Stow Creek, as also the upper part of the land that is on the North side of Stow Creek as low as the (middle?) of Jonathan (Platt’s?) North side line, thence due north ____ if inseparable with _______ old line as also one half of the salt marsh that is back of Jonathan Bradways to ______ and before him his heirs and assigns forever. Item: I give, devise and bequeath to my youngest son, Thomas Pagett all my land that is on the North side of Stow Creek as hye up the creek as to the (middle?) of Jonathan Platt’s north side line and thence due North along the line that parts David Pagett’s upper land and his to the old line of ______ Tract as also one half of my salt marsh that is on the back side of Jonathan Bradway’s land to hold and be for him, his heirs and assigns forever, but if my son Thomas Pagett should chance to dye before he comes to age or have lawful issue then my will is that my son John shall have his half of the salt marsh to be to him, his heirs and assigns and that my son David Pagett shall have all the land that was my son Thomas’ to con______ with David Pagett, his heirs and assigns forever. My will also is that the other half of my moveable estate that will remain after my debts are paid shall be equally divided between David Pagett, Thomas Pagett, Mary Ewing and Abigail Harris, my five children in convenient time after my decease by my executor hereafter named. And I do hereby likewise constitute, make and ordain my son David Pagett to be my only and sole executor of this my Last Will and Testament and I do hereby utterly disallow, revoke and disanul all and every other former Testaments, Wills or legacies bequests and executory by me in anywise before this time named, willed and bequeathed, ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my Last Will and Testament for witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written.
