On this fourth day of March AD, one thousand eight hundred and fifty one personally appeared before me, a Notary Public within and for the county and State aforesaid, Mrs. Mary Brewster aged Sixty two years, a resident of Newark in the State of New Jersey, who being duly sworn according to law, declares, that she is the widow of William Brewster, deceased, who was a Private in the company commanded by Captain Luke Carter in the __________ Regiment of New Jersey Militia commanded by Frelinghuysen in the war with Great Britain. That her said husband volunteered at Morris County New Jersey on or about the First day of September AD 1814 for the term of three months and continued in actual service in said war for the term of Three Months and was Honorably discharged at Jersey City on the ? day of December AD, 1814 as will appear by the rolls of said Regiment. She further states that she was married to the said William Brewster in Essex County, New Jersey on the Twenty fifth day of September AD, 1805 by Aaron Condit a Presbyterian Minister and her name before said marriage was Mary Baldwin that her said husband died at Union Essex County New Jersey on the Twenty Fourth day of November AD, 1827 and that she is still a widow. That she has not a marriage certificate in her possession. She makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the bounty land to which she may be entitled under the act passed September 28th, 1850. On this fourth day of March Ad, one thousand eight hundred and fifty one personally appeared before me, a Notary Public within and for the State and county aforesaid John Baldwin and James B. Cook residents of the State of New York and the county of Kings who being duly sworn according to law, declare that Mary Brewster is the widow of William Brewster deceased, who was a Private in the company commanded by Captain Luke Carter in the ________ Regiment of New Jersey Militia commanded by Frelinghuysen in the War with England. That, the said Mary Brewster was married to the said William Brewster deceased, at Essex County in the State of New Jersey on the twenty fifth day of September AD, 1805 by Aaron Condit a Presbyterian Minister that the name of the said Mary Brewster before her marriage aforesaid, was Mary Baldwin, that her husband, the said William Brewster died at Union New Jersey on the Twenty fourth day of November AD, 1827 and that she is still a widow. That John Baldwin further swears that he was present at the marriage of said parties, which took place at the time and place above stated. And they swear that they are disinterested witnesses. And I hereby certify that John Baldwin and ___________________ are credible witnesses. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Power of Attorney Know all men by these presents, that I Mary Brewster of the county of Essex and State of New Jersey have constituted and appointed, and by these presents do constitute and appoint Francis Housing my true and lawful attorney, irrevocably for me and in my name to receive from the United States the bounty land certificate or warrant, or Pension certificate, and all such sum or sums of money, due me on account of arrears pay, three months extra pay, forage, mileage, for horses and other property lost or destroyed in the military service, expenses incurred, or money or moneys which may be due me by the United States on any account whatsoever, and to which I may be entitled as a widow of William Brewster, deceased, as set forth in the foregoing declaration; and generally to do all lawful acts and things whatsoever touching the premises, and an attorney or attorneys under him for the purposes aforesaid, to make and at his pleasure to revoke, hereby confirming all and whatsoever my said attorney shall in my name legally do or cause to be done in and about the premises.
