James Bailey Expires at Portage, While on His Way Home. James Bailey, of Newark, N.J., died on day express yesterday near Portage, and the body was brought to this city and turned over to Undertaker Lafferty to prepare for burial. Bailey, who had been suffering from tuberculosis, was on his way from Chicago to his home, and hoped to reach there before the vital spark would leave. He was thought to be able to stand the trip and left Chicago on Saturday. The travel, however, had a bad effect on him and he grew worse, death finally coming to him while the train was passing Portage. The body will be held to await the arrival of word from his sister in Newark. Altoona Times, Altoona, PA, Monday morning, July 6, 1903
