Dr. Lawrence, 92, Woman Physician.  Former School Teacher, in Practice in 
Newark Many Years, died August 19, 1947.  Services for Dr. Minnie J. Lawrence 
will be held privately on August 22 at the residence of her nephew, Dr. Elwood 
M. Easton of 515 Mt. Prospect Avenue, with whom she practiced medicine for 
many years.  Burial in Clinton Cemetery, Irvington.

Born in Livingston, the daughter of the late David A. and Anne A. Cannon 
Lawrence, Dr. Lawrence graduated from old Newark High School and Newark Normal 
School.  She taught for several years in Washington Street School and then, 
with her meager savings, she put herself through the former New York Medical 
College for Women, graduating in 1892.  She started practice in Newark and was 
on the staff of the old Homeopathic Hospital, which later became East Orange 
General Hospital.  Her office was at 146 Washington Street for many years.  
She retired in 1932.

Dr. Lawrence was a member of the American Medical Association, the Medical 
Society of New Jersey and the Essex County Medical Society. 

Additional Comments:
Minnie J. Lawrence's grandparents were Alexander CANNON and Phebe BEACH and 
Edwin LAWRENCE and Phebe HALL.  Minnie's known siblings were Charlotte 
Evaline "Eva" Lawrence EASTON (wife of Edgar M. EASTON), Frank LAWRENCE and 
Irving C. LAWRENCE.
