The submittor has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. ************************************************************************ Will of Jan Jacobusse Essex Co., New Jersey 5815-5816G, B. 26, p. 426 Will written 3 Dec 1783 and proved 25 Dec 1783 In the name of God Amen, I Jan Jacobusse, eldest son of Henry Jacobusse of Essex County, State of New Jersey, farmer, being at present very weak of body but of a sound disposing mind, memory and understanding, willing to settle my earthly estate before it shall please God to call me hence in whose hands I bequeath my soul, have thought proper to make and ordain this my last will & testament as follows. First, I request to have a Christian burial and my will is that all my funeral charges and just debts be paid. Secondly, I give and bequeath my grandson John Jacobusse the eldest son of my eldest son Derck Jacobusse one horse being a gelding known and called by the family by the name of the blue gelding aged about four years in bar of every other claim or protest he may have or make to any other part of my estate. Item, my will is and I give devise and bequeath unto my two sons now living by name, Hendh. Jacobusse and Jacobus Jacobusse, to them their heirs and assigns forever, the farm whereon I at present reside situated lying and being on the bridge of the mountains in Essex County, State of New Jersey, being ninety acres more or less which I purchased of David Ogden Esq., as well appear by the deed dated April the tenth May 1770 to each of them an equal quantity of acres, only my will is that my son Hendh. have his part on the south side, so far as to include the house we at present reside in, but then my will is that my said son Hendrick assist his brother Jacobus in building a house on his part of said farm equal to or like that part of my house in which Hendrh. at present resides of stove and furnished as far as that is furnished, and that until said house is built and so far completed my son Jacobus shall reside in and keep possession of that part of my house in which I at present live, enjoy the liberty of reaping so much of the fruit of the orchard as will suffice his family till the orchard he shall plant bears fruit, and also such other privileges as are necessary to his enjoying said house peaceably. My will further is that my above named sons Hendr. & Jacobus, their heirs, executors, administrators in consideration of my bequeathing them said --- do well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto my daughters Altjea, the widow of John Devore, Fitjea, the wife of Jacob Van Ryson, Catherine, the wife of Maurice Maidrice, Jannetje, the wife of Cornelius Jacobusse, to each of them their heirs or assigns, the sum of ten pounds lawful money of this state within eighteen months after my decease. Item, my will is and I give devise and bequeath unto my above named sons Hendrick & Jacobus to them their heirs and assigns forever, all my part, right title and interest in and to the real estate left me by my father Hendrick Jacobusse in company with my brothers as well – by his will, which estate remains still undivided, they paying in consideration thereof to each of my above named daughters their heirs or assigns, the sum of five pounds current money of the state within, eighteen months after they shall have got possession of the same or received the value thereof. Lastly, my will and I give and bequeath all the remainder of my estate both real and personal amongst my named children, namely, Hendh., Jacobus, Altjea, Fitjea, Catherine and Jannetjea, share and share alike to them, their heirs and assigns for ever. And I do hereby constitute, nominate and appoint my loving children Hendh. and Jacobus Jacobusse to be the executors of this my last will and testment, revoking all of the wills by me made. In testimony whereof I have hereunto let my hand & seal this third day of December, in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty three. Signed, sealed and declared in the presence of us by the Testator to be his last will and testament to which we saw him and each other put their names. Sworn at Newark, Dec 25th, 1783 Before me, Alex Maewhorter, Surrogate Sworn at Newark, Dec 29th 1783, before me, Alex Maewhorter, Surrogate Hendrick Jacobusse and Jacobus Jacobusse, sole executors in the – testament, being duly sworn according to law, did depose and say, that the writing instrument is the true last will and testament of Jan Jacobusse, the testator therein named, as far as they know and as they verily believe, that they will well and truly perform the same, by paying first the debts of the deceased and then the legacies in the said testament decried so far as the goods, chattels and --- of the said deceased can thereunto --- and that they will make and exhibit unto the prerogative office of the State of New Jersey a true and perfect inventory of all and singular the goods, chattels and –-- its of the said deceased, that have or shall -- to their knowledge or --- --- or to the --- of any other --- or --- for their use and under --- --- --- thereunto ----.
