The Hannibal Journal, 5 August 1847
Death of a Veteran. -- Thomas Carpenter, aged 95 years, one of the old "Jersey 
Blues," died in Gloucester county, New Jersey, on the 7th ult.  His family 
arrived in this country with Wm. Penn, and he himself was a paymaster in 
Washington's army.
