Nov. 10--Miss Leopoldine Rojer, a midwife, is being held by police here on a charge of manslaughter. Dr. G. W. Draesdel was also arrested on a charge of concealing a crime. The arrest followed a police investigation into the death of Mrs. Lena Grome, 24, of Hoboken, who died yesterday as the result of an illegal operation, alleged to have been performed by the midwife. When Mrs. Grome died Dr. Draesdel refused to sign a death certificate and did not notify the police, it is alleged. Charles Hoffman, local undertaker notified the office of the county physician, who sent Dr. Hasking, to examine the body. He notified chief of police Edward J. McFeely, who caused the arrests. When arraigned before recorder Adolph Carsten, today, the midwife as held without bail for hearing Tuesday. Dr. Draesdel was paroled on a further hearing.
