Beatty, in the 5th Regiment Pennsylvania Line, for the term of one year - that at the expiration of the year he returned home, having been taken prisoner by the enemy & made his escape --- the North River by swimming to a boat in the River; - that he enlisted --- time in Capt. Anderson’s company in the 3rd Regiment, Jersey Line on or about the month of June 1778 - that he was discharged at the expiration of the nine months by Col. Thompson of the aforesaid Regiment at Newark in State of Jersey - that he is now in his 68th year of his hage - that he has no convenient evidence to offer, excepting this his own statement - and that he is now in need of his country’s assistance for support by reason of his reduced circumstances in life Sworn and Subscribed to this 4th day of May 1818 Elijah Holcombe Before me, David Stillwell As Judge 14475 Ohio R Elijah Holcomb of Muskingham in the state of Ohio who was a private in the regiment commanded by Capt. Beatty of the Pennsylvania Line, for the term of one year Inscribed on the roll of Ohio at the rate of 8 Dollars per month, to commence on the 4 of May 1818 Certificate of Pension issued the 10 of Sep 1819 and sent to John Hammer Zanesville Ohio Arrears to Sep 1819 128.2 – Semi-anl. All’ce ending March 1820 48.- - 15 -- -- $176.2- Revolutionary claim At 18th March, 1818 Continued State of Ohio, Muskingum, County Court of Common Pleas, November Term 1820 On this Twenty seventh day of November 1820, personally appeared in open Court of Record for said state Elijah Holcombe aged 70 years, resident in Muskingam county in said stte, who being first duly sworn according to law, doth on his oath declare, that he served in the Revolutionary War on the continental establishment, as follows: In the fifth Regiment, commanded by Col. Penrose, Capt. Beatty’s Company, Pennsylvania Line. The date of my original application is 4th of May 1818 and the number of my pension certificate is 14,475 And I do solemnly swear, I was a resident citizen of the United States on the 18th March 1818; and that I have not since that time by gift, sale or in any manner disposed of my property or any part thereof, with intend thereby so to diminish it as to bring myself within the provisions of an act of Congress, entitled “An act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and naval service of the United States in the Revolutionary War,” passed on the 18th day of March 1818 - And that I have not, nor has any person in trust for me any property or securities, contracts or debts due to me; nor have I any income other than that which is contained in the schedule hereunto annexed, and by me subscribed. My occupation is laboring - Not able to pursue it - My wifes name is Nancy - Her age as follows: 74 - Live with my son and upon him chieflly depend of support in our old age.
