He was 76. He was born and raised in Phillipsburg and lived in Hunterdon much of his life, mainly in Flemington. His ancestor, Peter Woolever (the name was changed to Willever in 1807) was one of Hunterdon's first settlers, arriving in what is now West Amwell Township in 1721. In 1739, he built what is now the oldest house in the township. His son, James, moved to Asbury, building the first gristmill on the Musconetcong River. From these beginnings, Mr. Willever's forefathers took part in the early history of the county. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Eighth Air Force as a tail gunner in the European theater of operations from 1942 to 1947. He was a member of the Teamsters Union, retiring in 1984. He was a founder, president and coach in the Flemington Pioneers football team, active for 12 years, and was a coach and president of the South Hunterdon Little League. His first wife, the former Margaret Donnelly of Dundee, Scotland, died earlier. He is survived by his wife of 16 years, the former Dorothy Griffith, who was from Whitehouse Station; a daughter, Terry Smith of Flemington; four sons, William of Stockton, John and Randall, both of New Jersey and Kevin of Pennsylvania; four grandchildren, and two great-grandsons. A memorial service was held December 6 at Citrus Greens of Orange Tree in Naples, Florida. Memorial contributions can be made to Hunterdon Hospice, 2100 Wescott Drive, Flemington 08822.
