State Archives Marriage Certificate dated 19 Sep 1769 between DANIEL HOFF & LAURA (SIMRIA) TITUS. Witness: Cornelius Hoff Additional Comments: The father of DANIEL HOFF was reportedly JOHN HOFF, who was born in Raritan, NJ after the "Dutch" family moved there form NY. DANIEL HOFF & wife, LAURA TITUS married on 19 Sep 1769. In about 1772-3 they moved from NJ to Prince William Co., Northern VA (near present day Manassas), and they may have lived on a farm of MOORE HOFF, who was reportedly also from NJ and likely had a family connection. The farm was on the SE edge of the the present-day Manassa Regional Airport. LAURA TITUS HOFF died about 1774-5 after bearing 3 sons, including an AMOS HOFF, CORNELIUS HOFF. DANIEL remarried SUSAN SOPHIA MOFFETT and they had some 8 children, including a JONATHAN/JOHN F.HOFF (1775-1811). DANIEL HOFF was apparently a lay preacher & given the honorary title of "Reverend" by the local laity, which has been associated with his name. He died about 1802, and may have been buried on the farm of MOORE HOFF (in one of 15 unmarked graves next to the house). His father, JOHN HOFF, may have preceded him from NJ to VA, and also died and ws buried on the farm of MOORE HOFF. Following DANIEL's death, his widow and numerous children and their families moved ~1804-5 en mass with several other local families overland via Braddock's Road to Pittsburgh, and then down river by flatboat to near Marietta, OH. Their son, JONATHAN/JOHN F.HOFF (born ~1775 VA) and his wife also appeared to have made the trip along with their young son, POWELL HOFF (1801 Pr.Wm.Co., VA - 1870 Dallas Co, IA). In 1824 in Marietta, POWELL HOFF married MARTHA BREWSTER, dtr of Rev. War Vet, NATHAN BREWSTER (1758-1842), and they had some 12 children, moving first to Chesterhill (1829-40), then Peoria 1840-55), then near Des Moines, in Dallas Co., IA in 1855. They had a son, JOHN H. HOFF (1830 Chesterhill, OH - 1909 DSM, IA), who married MARY ANN AKINS in 1854, and they had 8 children, including a son, JOHN CASSIUS HOFF (1875- 1960), who in 1904 married MABEL MINA TENNANT. They had 3 children, including 2 dtrs and a son, JOHN RICHARD HOFF (1909-1970), who in 1934 married VALETTA FLORENCE HOFF (1912 Boise, ID - 2008 DSM). They had two sons: JOHN SCOTT HOFF (1946 DSM - ) and ROBERT TENNANT HOFF (1948 - Now). That is my nexus with the Hoffs of NJ.
