All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/nj/njfiles.htm ************************************************ Thomas Godown Guardian of Hannah Godown - Bond & Petition 1307J Filed 8th May 1790 Hunterdon 1790 Letter Granted Recorded in Book No. 30 of Wills Page 319 Examined Know all Men by these Presents, that We Thomas Godown and Daniel Thatcher of Amwell in the County of Hunterdon in the State of New Jersey are holden and do stand indebted unto William Livingston, Esquire, Governor of the said State in the Sum of Five Hundred Pounds of current lawful Money of New-Jersey; to be paid to the said William Livingston Esquire his Successors or Assigns; For the which payment well and truly be donem we do bind ourselves, our Heirs, Executors and Administrators and every of them, Jointly and severally, firmly by these Presents. Sealed with our Seals; Dated this 6th Day of May, Anno Domini, One thousand Seven Hundred and ninety Whereas Hannah Godown ( scratched out - Daughter of Evans Godown late of Amwell Deceased) an infant of Age Fourteen Years and upwards, Daughter of Evans Godown, late of the County of Hunterdon deceased, hath by her Petition to the Governor, filed in the Prerogative Office of New Jersey prayed that the above bound Thomas Godown may be appointed Guardian of her person and Estate, thill she attains the Age of twenty-one Years, the said Guardianship not having been disposed of by the Will of the said Infant’s father. NOW the Condition of the above Obligation is such, That if the above-bound Thomas Godown do and shall take Care of the Person or Persons as by law are or may be entitled to receive the same, and render a just and true Account of the Rents, Issues, and Profits of the Real and Personal Estate of the said Infant; and in the mean time, Improve the same for her Use and best Advantage and make no Sale, nor committ any waste or Destruction thereof or therein; then this Obligation to be void or else to stand and remain in full Force and Virtue. Throckmorton Daniel Thatcher To his Excellency William Livingston Esquire Governor, Captain-General and Commander in Chief in and over the State of New Jersey, and territories thereunto belonging, & C. The PETITION of Hannah Godown Daughter of Evans Godown, late of Amwell in the County of Hunterdon in the State Aforesaid Humbly Sheweth, That your Petitioner’s Father hath not, by any Deed in his Life Time, nor otherwise, disposed of the Guardianship of your Petitioner, pursuant to the Statutes made in the Twelfth Year of the Reign of Charles the Second, late King of England &c. enabling the Father to dispose of the Guardianship of his Child or Children, until their Age of twenty-one Years. That your Petitioner being out of the Wardship of her Guardian in Succaoge: And having an Estate Real and Personal, which stands in Need of due Care being taken thereof, Hath made Choice of Thomas Godown to be her Guardian, until your Petitioner shall attain her full age. Your Petitioner therefore prays, That your Excellency will be pleased to grant unto the said Thomas Godown the Guardianship of your Petitioner’s Estate, until your Petitioner shall attain her ful Age aforesaid.
